Pitmedden Road
Sports Facility.
A Public Consultation process will shortly be
launched in Dyce and its hinterland to gauge opinion for the perceived need and
potential support for a multi-million pound world class state of the art sports
and leisure complex incorporating grass and all weather pitches.
The process has been launched by the Dyce Sports
and Leisure Development Trust (DSLDT),
a registered charity and community led association with the aim of promoting
inter-generational sport and leisure activities which lead to healthy
recreation.
The consultation which will include an in
depth questionnaire and market research is being organised by DSLDT
a volunteer body formed by representatives of various community and sports
groups including Len Nicol representing Dyce Boys Club.
The trust has an invaluable asset, in that it
has exclusive access to a part of a 17 acre site at Pitmedden Road - bequeathed
by a local benefactor on the condition it was only to be used for sports and
leisure facilities for the community - effectively ring fencing it for that
purpose. The remainder of the land is owned by Aberdeen City Council which has
indicated that it is prepared to lease its land to the Trust on a small rental
basis.
The trust hopes to get the go ahead from the
public consultation process for an eco friendly sports and leisure complex which
will embrace many sports and leisure activities.
The public consultation process should be
favourable which allows the trust to take a decision to proceed with the project
based on the findings of the research study by the end of Summer 2009.
Should the project meet public approval the
relevant planning permission will be sought in Autumn 2009, sponsorship would be
sought from the business and commercial sector and application made to grant
funding bodies on a Scottish and UK basis.
