Squad: Craig, Martin, Ryan, Adam, Sean, Scott D, Matthew, John Scorers: Matthew 3, Ryan, Craig, Own Goal What a difference a week makes!!. Right from the kick-off the Dyce side pressed Middlefield back into their own penalty area, forcing corner after corner. Only last gasp defending was keeping the Middlefield goal intact, as shot after shot rained in on goal. It was surely only a matter of time before a goal came. Unfortunately it came at the wrong end. A quick break upfield from Middlefield and some iffy defending from a throw in led to the Hornets taking the lead after ten minutes Heads up boys!!. Still Dyce pressed and pressed looking for an equaliser, with the pairing of Sean and Ryan on the left causing havoc in the Middlefield defence. Ryan shot wide with only the keeper to beat after beating three on the wing, and then Adam shot just over as Sean cleverly pulled the ball into his path from the by-line. A disputed penalty claim, as a Middlefield player seemed to handle the ball in the box, but the referee said that ball played hand, and it was surely only a matter of time before a goal would come!!! It did!! Wrong goal again; making only their third attack of the half, the ball broke to a Middlefield striker and he drove the ball past John, 0-2. It was important that Dyce kept their heads up bearing in mind recent results and displays, and right from the restart Dyce scored. Sean and Ryan again passed their way down the left hand side, and Ryan put a ferocious driven ball across the box, which the inrushing Hornets defender could only direct past his own keeper. 1-2. The match settled down until half-time with Dyce dominating without creating any further clear cut chances. The boys were upbeat at half-time and knew that they only had to keep playing and they should be alright. The game continued in the same vein as the first half with Dyce having the upper hand of a close contest. Adam, Scott and Sean were now completely in charge in the midfield, with Craig and Martin having little to do other than retrieve long punted clearances from the Middlefield defence. Ryan carved the defence open down the left again and cut inside the last defender and fired in a shot, beating the keeper at his near post. 2-2. Almost straight from the restart, a shot from Adam, was spilled by the goalkeeper and Matthew pounced to poke the ball home, 3-2. By now, Dyce should have been closing the game out, but a little slackness , let the Hornets in again and a long range effort found the net. 3-3. The Hornets were lifted by this and soon forced a corner, and from the resultant stramash, in the box, John did well to dive on top of a deflected shot as the boots rained in. A fourth goal would settle the game now and when Ryan fired in a low shot which the goalkeeper let through his hand, Matthew forced the ball over the line to give Dyce the lead again. From another corner, the ball was cleared only as far as Craig who fired in a long shot which found the top corner, 5-3, and right at the stroke of full time, Adam powered into the box, beating a couple of defenders and was about to shoot when he was tripped. Penalty. Matthew stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to complete his hat-trick. A great performance from every player – totally different attitude from last week and its hard to believe it’s the same group of players. Special mention to Ryan and Sean down the left side who tormented the Hornets side the whole match. Well done boys!!
