If you thought it was cold last week, it was nothing compared to Sunday morning at Aulton. There was a howling gale down the pitch and it was also pouring rain, and Dyce kicked off with the wind at their backs. The first half was all one way, with Dyce creating chance after chance, but we were only able to tuck one away, and it was Chris that opened the scoring with about ten minutes to half time.  Because of the weather it was proving difficult to play our normal passing game, but we were still creating plenty of chances and only some inspired  and lucky goalkeeping was keeping the score to one. Right on the stroke of half-time however converted their one and only attack in that half, with Matthew , who was deputising for John, unable to stop a well placed shot.

Half –time 1-1

I felt that we would play better into the wind and it was with renewed confidence that we kicked off the second half. Stuart had taken over in goals from Matthew, while Mark had joined the match on the other pitch. Again we kept pressing Fernhill back, but with little luck. Chance after chance was spurned and I felt that there was always the danger that Fernhill may score again.

Stuart in particular made a couple of good saves, one spectacular, one fortunate, before being beaten by a lob shot from thirty yards out which gave Fernhill the lead. Soon after, Matthew replaced Stuart in goal who had injured his hand earlier.

Andy Smith was introduced to the fray at this point, but before we could regain our shape Fernhill went 3-1 up. Andy got a good consolation goal after a strong run through the midfield, but Fernhill warapped up the scoring in the dying seconds as Dyce pressed for an equaliser.

It was not one of our better performances, but again we rued the missed chances, having made enough opportunities to have the match well sewn up by half time. It was not for the lack of effort that Dyce lost this game and once we begin putting away the chances we are creating, our dominance in matches will see us back to our winning ways. All players put in a good shift, but special mention goes to our two VOLUNTEER goalkeepers who were prepared to take the responsibility on such a terrible day.
