A very good performance in the first period saw some good passing movements on a very tricky surface – the top of the pitch was very wet with the previous days rain and the ground below was still very hard. This coupled with a stiff breeze meant that controlling the ball was difficult. After bearing a little bit of early pressure from Colony, we began to dominate and after ten minutes a good string of passes from defence let Sean in and a great first time finish beat the Colony keeper all ends up. From then on we continued to dominate the midfield battle without creating much up front for the remainder of the first period. In the second period, we continued to dominate and created numerous chances but the Colony keeper was proving up to the task. A speculative shot from twenty yards out from a Colony midfielder bounced viciously in front of Kevin Petrie in goals, and levelled the scores. This perked up the Colony team and they became even more determined to match our midfield. The third period was much like the first, with Dyce dominating the game without creating many clear-cut chances. The Dyce defence was having very little to deal with, and it came as a surprise when Colony scored a second, with their only serious attack of the period, forcing home the ball in a goalmouth scramble. The Dyce midfield was unable to create any clear-cut chances with Colony defending well, stifling our more creative players. It was one of those days when if we had played all day we probably wouldn’t have scored a second, but I can’t fault the players effort on a difficult surface against a well organised side.
