In a hastily re-arranged fixture, as Glendale our expected opponents called off, Dyce started off the better side, on a very tight pitch. The early exchanges led to both Chris and Matthew going close with Scott providing good support from midfield. Glentanar were by no means out of it, but good defending from Jack and Calum meant that Stuart in the Dyce goal saw very little of the ball in this first period. The first goal, when it came, was always going to come at the Dyce end and when Adam reacted first in a goalmouth scramble to knock the ball home it was no real surprise. (1-0 Dyce at the end of the first period). In the second period, we made some changes, Paul replacing Matthew up front, and Ryan coming on for Scott. Chris and Ryan were by now dominating procedures on the right flank, and both Chris and Ryan came close with efforts. A cross from the right from Ryan led to the Glentanar keeper punching the ball onto Chris’s head and back into the goal – I’m sure this should be an o.g. but Chris is claiming it!!!! Glentanar continued to compete resolutely in midfield and they pulled one back soon after in a goalmouth scramble. However, Dyce soon restored a two goal advantage, with Adam scooping the ball home from 5 yards out after the keeper spilled a cross from Paul on the left. The game was now going from end to end and Glentanar came close once or twice before finally forcing a second goal.A low shot from the edge of the box just eluded Stuart’s reach. Again, Dyce restored their two goal lead, this time with Chris firing home well from the edge of the box after some good work in midfield from Adam and Sean.
At the start of the third period, we made some more changes with Ryan replacing Stuart in goals, and Scott Melville replacing Sean in midfield, Matthew replacing Chris up front. The third period started with Dyce dominating with Scott Melville in particular, working very hard in his midfield role, linking well with Jack at the back and the front pair. If anyone was going to score it was going to be Dyce, but it’s a funny old game, and sure as fate, Glentanar reduced the deficit once more to one, as Ryan was beaten by a shot from the edge of the box. This only spurred Dyce on further, and a great run from Scott down the right and a deep cross to the far post, saw Paul just fail to make contact with the ball when the slightest touch would have counted. It was only a matter of time and good work down the left from Calum and Stuart led to the ball breaking to Paul on the edge of the box and he fired off a great shot which gave the Glentanar keeper no chance. Scott Melville had to be carried off soon after with a back injury, which required a trip to Casualty, but all is well now.
The final whistle went soon after and a deserved victory for Dyce who had dominated a stuffy side.
A good performance all round, with some players excelling in unfamiliar positions. Scott put in a power of work on the right with Adam bossing the midfield in the centre.
