The Stonehaven team seemed far more up for the game from the start, but were unable to press home their advantage until about twenty minutes, when a corner from the right wasn’t properly cleared and a shot was struck back into the back, taking a deflection on its way in. And they soon scored a second in almost identical circumstances, but this time the return shot was unstoppable. The second half was marginally better initially as we changed to two up front but we never seemed likely to score. Our defence was being exposed regularly due to poor working-back by the midfield, and Craig, Stuart and John were really keeping us in the game at this point. It was only a matter a time before Stonehaven would score again, and they did with about a quarter of an hour remaining. The work rate dropped again and Stoney quickly added a fourth. John managed a good save from a penalty late on, but the final whistle couldn’t come too soon at this stage. Martin and Ryan did their level best on the left side and upfront, but very little was going right and we were generally exposed through the centre for most of the game. The back three deserve some praise for their determination throughout the sixty minutes. Although we were missing two regulars in Josh and Matthew due to illness, the fact remains that this was a poor performance.
