Dyce BC   2 - 2  Stonehaven BC

Tuesday  11th April  2004

With Coach Ron Cromar off to Dundee to have a look at our Scottish Cup Final opponents, Coach Neil Herd was in full charge today.
Dyce kicked off on the narrow confines of pitch One. Some good interlinking play between Doug Gibb and Ian Coffey, saw a Kris McCombie shot held by the keeper. The first goal arrived after 10 minutes when a through ball was latched onto by KRIS McCOMBIE to slam a shot into the net from 10 yards. Stonehaven were playing some good football, but their moves were being thwarted by a defence well marshalled by Keith Duncan. A long cross field pass from Ryan Stott was controlled well by ANDREW WHYTE who hit a perfect shot across the goalkeeper into the far side of the net. The first half finished with Dyce on top.

HT 2 - 0

John Cheyne took over in goal from Kyle Reid at the start of the second half, and he had to be on his toes when the bustling Stonehaven forward broke clear, but over ran the ball and the danger was averted. However, Dyce did not learn from this, and after 15 minutes some confusion in the Dyce defence allowed a Stonehaven forward an easy chance to pull a goal back, which he duly accepted. Some changes were made as some of the boys were tiring after their hard match on Sunday, and as sometimes happens, the rhythm went out of the team and Stonehaven started to control the match. Wth 5 minutes remaining, another mix up in the Dyce ranks, again allowed a Stonehaven player to slam home the equalising goal. Despite a late rally with a Craig Macklin shot hitting the bar, and an Ian Coffey drive going wide, the match finished all square. Credit to Stonehaven for a spirited fight back. A combination of tiredness , narrow pitch, and players having an off day contributed to the result, however the boys must recharge their batteries for the final on Thursday night.
