This Cup Final was switched at the last minute, to Jamieson Park Woodside due to some confusion over the use of Denmore Park. Ronnie , Neil and Jim hoped that this delay did not upset the players preparations too much. The match kicked off in front of a large crowd, and Dyce were quickly on the attack with Luke Barbour and Andrew Shinnie trying to stamp their authority early in the battle for midfield. Shaun Findlay ran onto a terrific through ball from Craig Macklin, but pulled his shot wide of the goal. Dyce were playing some terrific passing football, but were lacking the final ball. Colony were proving to be a threat on the counter attack, but like Dyce, the good lead up play was to no avail, as the moves broke down in the final third of the pitch. It looked like it would take a piece of individual skill or a mistake to turn the tide of this match between two evenly matched sides. With 20 minutes on the clock, some battling play by Ryan Stott won the ball, which he laid into the path of LUKE BARBOUR, who hit a tremendous first time shot from 20 yards high into the Colony net. Things got even better for Dyce 5 minutes later, when a loose ball in midfield was controlled by ANDREW SHINNIE, who took a touch and hit a screamer from 25 yards low into the net. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Colony, and just on half time a great run and cross from Ryan Stott was just missed by the head of Andrew Whyte. The half time whistle blew with Dyce finishing the half the stronger of the two teams. HT 2 - 0 The second half did not live up to the excitement of the first. Colony pushed players up front in a valiant attempt to pull the game back, but despite one or two close calls, John Cheyne was not troubled too much. Dyce did not create too many clear cut chances either in the half and seemed content to protect their lead. The final whistle went and Dyce had deservedly won the cup. Some excellent performances in defence from Danny Milne, Keith Duncan, Doug Gibb and Nikki Gall had helped keep a clean sheet, and the tireless work of the midfield and front players ensured that Dyce won the first trophy of the season. Credit must go to Colony Park for a great battling performance, they did not give up hope and had some excellent individual performers on the day. The Belmont Trophy was presented to Dyce skipper Andrew Shinnie by the North Region SYFA Secretary Neil Paterson. Man of the match this week goes to Luke Barbour for a tireless display capped with an excellent goal. Well Done Boys !!!!
