Colony Park  3 - 8  Dyce BC

Sunday 5th October 2008

Webster Park

Dyce kicked off on a cold Sunday morning at a blistering pace.  They attacked Colony from the off and a good move down the right saw Craig Gill and Cameron McArthur link up well before Cameron’s cross was deflected for a corner.  From the resulting kick Cameron McArthur’s shot was cleared off the line.  At the other end Cory Ritchie was on hand to clear the danger after Sam Barbour had saved from a Colony attacker.  Dyce went on the attack through Craig Gill who crossed the ball to Ewan McGregor at the back post only for his shot to go narrowly past the post. Dyce were rewarded with their first goal when Cameron McArthur’s shot was saved by the Colony keeper but the alert Kieran Mearns was on hand to slide the ball into the goal.

At the other end Sam Barbour used his legs to full advantage to block a Colony effort.  Ewan McGregor picked up a pass from Jordan Cooper but he saw his effort well saved by the Colony keeper. A Cameron McArthur through ball was picked up by Kieran Mearns who turned sharply at the edge of the box but he saw his effort go narrowly past the upright. A quick throw in by Ewan McGregor saw Cory Ritchie fire in a good cross which Kieran Mearns controlled before side stepping his marker and rifling his shot into the corner of the net.

First Period: 0 - 2

Dyce kicked off the second period as the first ended, by going on the attack.  Cory Ritchie picked up the ball in the middle of the park, he drove forward before releasing a good effort which flew past the post. Craig Gill was again on hand to put in a timely tackle to concede a corner kick.  Sam Barbour collected the corner before releasing Etienne. He in turn found Ethan Garden whose shot deflected out for a Dyce corner.  From the resulting kick Craig Gill’s shot was cleared up the park where Sam Barbour reacted quickly by coming off his line to smother the ball.

A corner kick by Ethan Garden fell kindly to Josh Bolton at the back post who turned the ball into an empty net. Another strong challenge from Craig Gill set up another attack with Euan Johnston bursting forward before firing in a telling cross, where an unlucky Colony defender turned the ball into his own net. Euan Johnston again found space but this time his shot was well saved by the alert Colony keeper. Craig Gill was again called to duty when, left alone with three attackers, he made an excellent tackle to clear the danger. A good move down the right from Dyce gave Josh Bolton a clear run at goal and the midfielder made no mistake by cracking it home.

Second Period: 0 - 5

Cameron McArthur played through Euan Johnston but, with the keeper beaten, his shot hit the side netting.  Dyce then saw the score reduced when slack defending allowed a Colony midfielder to take advantage of the space to shoot into an open goal. Craig Gill soon had the away crowd cheering again when he picked up a loose ball on the half way line, before driving forward and unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

Colony then hit Dyce with a double in quick succession by taking advantage of poor defending by Dyce. Dyce reacted well when another long range effort from Craig Gill was turned home by Kieran Mearns past the advancing Colony Keeper. Jordan Cooper played through Ewan McGregor who cleverly made space for himself before firing the ball into the keeper's left hand corner. The Colony keeper then made a double save firstly from Kieran Mearns then from Jordan Cooper.

The boys played some fantastic football and could have scored more if it had not been for an inspired Colony keeper.

Well played boys, keep it up!
