Stonehaven Munich YFC 4 - 5 Dyce BC Sunday 9th November 2008 Mineral Wells, Stonehaven Dyce were on their travels to Stonehaven this week where they met a Stonehaven team that were well organised and marshalled well in the middle of the park by their No.8. Straight from the kick off a long diagonal ball by Jordan Cooper found Ewen McGregor who cut inside before playing a great one/two with Kieran Mearns only to see his effort hit the base of the post. Ethan Garden’s cross was controlled by Kieran Mearns who side stepped his marker before releasing his shot only to see another Stonehaven defender clearing off the line. A good ball played into the heart of the Dyce defence saw a Stonehaven player gifted a sight of goal. Fortunately his first time effort was saved by Sam Barbour. Dyce opened the scoring when Cory Ritchie burst forward before striking a low shot into the keeper’s bottom right hand corner. Kieran Mearns outpaced the three Stonehaven defenders before crossing the ball into the Stonehaven penalty area but both Ewen McGregor and Jordan Cooper failed to make contact. Craig Gill decided to try his luck from long range and although his effort was going in Ewen McGregor decided to make sure for his first goal of the game. Dyce had most of the possession in the first period but due to the Stonehaven tactics of playing three at the back Dyce were unable to increase the score. First Period 0 - 2 With a change of tactics by Stonehaven they started to contribute to the game. It wasn’t long before they pulled a goal back. A counter attack by Stonehaven found their forward with time and space to round Sam Barbour and roll the ball into an empty net. Stonehaven nearly levelled the score when their No.8 decided to try his luck from long range but his shot shaved the upright. Josh Bolton was pulled down in the middle of the park to give Dyce a free kick but from his cross Euan Johnston just failed to make contact. Craig Gill was then on hand to make a last gasp tackle to save another shot on goal. A change of personnel by the Dyce manager saw the game swing back into Dyce’s favour. Ross Craigen played a nice ball to Kieran Mearns whose first time effort was well saved. Kieran returned the compliment by setting up Ross Craigen but his shot was inches past the post. A ball from the midfield was received by Kieran Mearns. He beat his marker before releasing Ewen McGregor who scored from a tight angle. Corey Ritchie played Ross Craigen down the right and his first time cross was met by Kieran Mearns who made no mistake in sending the ball into the back of the net. Dyce were still not finished and they soon made it 5 - 1 when a deep cross by Cameron McArthur found Ross Craigen at the back post where he also made no mistake and fired the ball home. Second Period 1 - 5 Stonehaven started the third period attacking the Dyce Goal and won a free kick on the edge of the box. They were unlucky not to score from the resulting kick when the ball went narrowly wide. Ettiene broke down another attack with a timely tackle to concede a corner. From the resulting corner Stonehaven were awarded a goal despite the protests of Sam Barbour and Craig Gill who claimed the ball had not crossed the line. A clearance from Cory Ritchie was picked up by the Stonehaven No.8 who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Euan Johnston was outnumbered by the Stonehaven defence when he chased a long clearance from Craig Gill. Stonehaven pulled another goal back, again a dubious decision. With the ball clearly out of play the cross was turned in to the Dyce net much to the dismay of the Dyce players and supporters. Kieran Mearns chased onto a Corey Ritchie through ball before firing a cross into the penalty area but there were no Dyce takers. The game finished 5 - 4 to Dyce. Dyce played a lot of good football in parts and can take comfort from the fact that the referee apologised at the end, conceding that at least one of the Stonehaven goals should not have stood. Final Score 4 - 5
