Dyce BC  10 - 2  Peterhead BC

Sunday 14th September 2008

Aulton

Dyce kicked off the new season on a windy morning at Aulton.

Dyce started well and Jordan Cooper just failed to get on the end of a good Ewan McGregor cross. Ewan McGregor and Kieran Mearns then combined to see Ewan’s stinging shot well saved by the Peterhead keeper.  A Peterhead attack was well broken up by some alert defending by Craig Gill who cleared the danger. After a surging run through the middle Craig Gill released a thunderbolt of a shot which nestled into the keeper’s left hand corner.

Cameron McArthur then tried his luck from a long way out but to the relief of the Peterhead defence their keeper held the ball well.  Cory Ritchie and Sam Barbour then came to the rescue in the Dyce defence when both combined to clear the danger.  The Peterhead keeper then made a super double save first from Craig Gill then from Kieran Mearns before Ewan McGregor followed up to make it third time lucky.

Kieran Mearns then had a good turn and shot saved well by the busy Peterhead keeper.  But not to be outdone Sam Barbour also pulled off a great save at the other end.  Ewan McGregor and Kieran Mearns then linked up well before Kieran saw his effort sneak inches past the upright. At the other end Ross Craigen was well positioned to clear the ball off the Dyce goal line.

First Period: 2-0

A good run from Ewan McGregor saw him playing a good one-two with Euan Johnston before sliding it past the advancing keeper.  It wasn’t long before Ewan McGregor completed his hat trick when he was first to react after the Peterhead keeper dropped a cross from Euan Johnston.

Euan Johnston picked up a pass from defence and picked out Ross Craigen on the right who drilled the ball into the net from an acute angle. Cory Ritchie found Josh Bolton inside the box, Josh watched on as his shot went past the post.

An alert Sam Barbour had to race from his line to block a shot after a break away attack from Peterhead.  Josh Bolton found space on the right but his deep cross was missed by both Cameron McArthur and Euan Johnston.  Next attack was started by Cameron McArthur who played a good through ball to Euan Johnston who made no mistake in drilling the ball into the back of the net.

Second Period: 6-0

Ethan Garden played Kieran Mearns in on the left but he saw his effort well saved by the keeper.  At the other end Cory Ritchie handled in the box giving the tiring referee no option but to give the penalty.  Sam Barbour to the relief of Cory saved the resulting spot kick. Ethan Garden decided to try his luck from long range only to see the Peterhead keeper touch his effort round the post.

Sam Barbour was left exposed as Peterhead went on the attack and on the second attempt a Peterhead striker hit a sweet shot into an empty net.

Dyce reacted well to losing a goal and went straight on the attack with Kieran Mearns heading the ball into the path of Jordan Cooper who had the easy task of tapping the ball home from close range. Ethan Garden was then unfortunate when his attempted clearance hit the back of his own net.

A run into the box by Jordan Cooper led to a penalty been awarded after he was brought down. Jordan stepped up to convert the spot kick.

Third Period: 8-2

A further period of ten minutes was played after a request from the Peterhead team.

Euan Johnston played a good ball to the advancing Cameron McArthur but his shot was well saved.  After picking the ball up in the midfield Kieran Mearns advanced past two defenders before firing the ball into the net.

As the final whistle was looming Dyce decided to launch a last attack with Kieran Mearns splitting the defence with a pass to Euan Johnston who shot past the Peterhead keeper.

Good Football on display with the season kicking off with a well deserved win.
