Dyce BC  16 - 1  Byron BC

Sunday 28th September 2008

Webster Park

Today’s game was to be the first home game for Dyce 10’s and when the game started it was evident that the boys enjoyed playing back at Webster Park.

Dyce started the game brightly and after 2 minutes of continuous pressure involving good passing from midfield to create width for Cory Ritchie to press forward and cross the ball into the Glentanar box where the ball unfortunately rebounded off one of Glentanar’s defenders and into there own goal.

With the first goal of the game scored it wasn’t long before Dyce moved 2 goals in front. Ewan McGregor with a quick pass from inside his own half found Kieran Mearns in a forward position who then ran on to take his first goal of the game.

The pressure continued when Jordan Cooper skilfully got round two defenders and seeing Ross Craigen in space quickly passed for Ross Craigen to coolly slot the ball home from in front of goal. Although Glentanar where now 3-0 down they did not give up in trying to get forward and this was rewarded with a good shot at goal.

The first 15 minutes was finished with a goal from Ewan McGregor who accepted his first goal of the game by finishing off his second shot at goal when the keeper made a good save from his first shot.

First Period: 4 – 0

The second period started as the first with good passing and quick movement into space that resulted in Dyce winning a corner kick. A good cross from this corner kick was initially defended well by Glentanar before Cory Ritchie ran forward onto a loose ball to place the it into the corner of the Glentanar goal. Josh Bolton now found space to cross the ball into the Glentanar box and with the keeper dropping the ball, Euan Johnston was quick to side foot the ball into the goal.

Euan and Josh combined again only for Josh‘s shot to just go over the bar. At this point of the game Dyce where in full control and Cameron McArthur did not waste any time in getting forward from midfield to produce a shot that sent the ball into the corner of the goal.

Dyce again pressed forward, but Glentanar took an opportunity by quickly breaking out of defence and found themselves in front of the Dyce goal where they then made Sam Barbour produce a very good save. Even after this retreat, Dyce quickly broke forward with Cory Ritchie finding himself in space to send the ball into the top right corner of Glentanar’s goal. Like the first goal for Dyce, the midfield’s passing supplied Josh Bolton with a pass that gave him the opportunity to shoot at goal. Needless to say he took his chance well and scored.

This time Josh Bolton found himself out wide and turning infield crossed the ball into the box. Only Josh will know if he meant the ball to be crossed for his team mates or a shot at goal as the ball went over the keeper and into the goal.

Second Period: 10 – 0

The third period was started better by Glentanar where a cross from the left sent the ball across the goal mouth. But it then gave the chance for Dyce to quickly push forward, producing a save from Kieran Mearns shot. Kieran Mearns sensed a second goal was coming for himself and would not let his next chance go by when he accepted a cross from Ewan McGregor to coolly slot the ball between the keeper's legs and into the goal.

Dyce now sent in another good cross from a corner kick where Jordan Cooper headed into the bottom right corner. Jordan’s goal was quickly followed by Ethan Garden’s cross that went unchallenged into the Glentanar goal. The next five minutes did not produce any goals but did see Dyce keep the ball through good passing and finding space to receive the ball. This was rewarded when Ewan McGregor passed to Euan Johnston who quickly passed to Jordan Cooper and with Ewan McGregor still going forward scored from Jordan Cooper’s pass.

Perseverance was rewarded for Glentanar when they finally scored after what was their best chance of the game. Two quick passes out of midfield found space in front of the Dyce goal and the opportunity of scoring was not wasted.

From the re-start Euan Johnston and Josh Bolton started to link up again and before long Josh received a pass from Euan to quickly shoot at goal which deflected off a Glentanar defender and into his goal.

With the game nearing it’s end, Euan Johnston received a pass from Cameron McArthur where he quickly feed through a pass to Ross Craigen, who finished off the move and game by placing the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Although this game was won by Dyce, it will be remembered for the high level of passing and getting the ball forward to be rewarded with 16 goals. All the boys should  be congratulated in showing a good display of teamwork.
