Dyce BC  6 - 0  Kemnay BC

Sunday 28th September 2008

Webster Park

With a nip in the air it was back to the hallowed turf of Webster park. As the first of the parents gathered, there was a loud "ALLO ALLO ALLO WHATS GOING ON HERE THEN" from behind. Without turning round Liam’s granddad announced "Mark the big bobby’s back then" and sure enough Girling’s bodyguard was there.

Today’s fixture against Kemnay threw Dyce into the unknown as last year's game was cancelled and due to a lack of staff no scouting mission had been undertaken.

As the under 10’s were also at home everyone trudged to the far side to witness another entertaining game.

By the time 10.30 arrived Brad’s grandparents had taken their position on the picnic seats and Harry the dog was being lead up and down the line by dog walker Samuel.

Mark Girling got the game underway with a starting line up of Nathan-Matty-Doodsy-Brad-Dylan-Craig and Ryan. Dyce started with some lovely passing moves and was on the front foot for the first five minutes. After some good build up play involving every player a nice touch through by Ryan released Craig who forced the first corner of the game. With Brad sitting deeper than usual, as Ben was not present, it was Craig and Dylan who were forcing the play forward. Kemnay started to get some possession and after a good ball through their striker had a great shot that went wide.

Doodsy was now showing great awareness by picking the ball up from Nathan at every chance and dispatching some great balls down the wing to Dylan, who was full of running and trickery which had his opposite player struggling. One of these moves saw Dylan go on a mazy and force another corner. From this Craig forced Kemnay’s keeper to pull off a fantastic save. Seconds later Dylan was through one on one with the keeper and again he was up to the task and pulled of a terrific save. At this point it was mostly one way traffic with Brad popping up to whip a powerful shot over the bar. Again, after some great tackling from Matty, and a clever ball through to Craig he released Ryan who turned his marker and laid the ball to Brad . Yet again the Kemnay keeper came to the rescue.

Dylan and Liam were having a great game with Liam showing some super skills and a new found strength to win possession time and time again.

Dylan then picked up another good ball by Doodsy and in turn sent Ryan wide to deliver a good cross, met by Craig only to have the Keeper make another impressive block!

Craig’s dad, in his quiet but distinct voice, said "this keepers becoming a pest."

Then it happened! After another passing move which saw great wide play on the far side involving Liam and Brad the ball was whipped over. A touch through by the ever running Dylan saw Ryan latch on and have a strike at goal which took a slight deflection and beat the keeper. 1-0

At this point Big Mark made his first switch with Angus coming on for Ryan. There was a lot of good play with Liam having a great shot saved and Brad having a free kick going just over.

Let's not forget Kemnay, for a side who have just made the step up to this level they had their chances. As well as their keeper keeping them in it Nathan kept Dyce’s clean sheet more than once. Often only having to collect pass backs his concentration level was first class and pulled off three top saves throughout the first period.

The half time whistle sounds and Dyce lead 1-0.

At this point a new addition to the sideline was Liam’s dad. Although he was looking his usual dapper self with his pearly white trainers skipping past all the wet patches, he looked somewhat lost and abandoned. As he approached Liam’s granddad he was heard to say "I really miss her Da". "I know son it’s never easy being separated from the one you love". It transpired that, as we stood in the fresh Webster chill, Sharon (Liam’s WAM) was in Dubai sunning herself and drinking Margareta’s round the pool, all in the name of research.

Like a scene from Still Game, Liam’s granddad put his arm round Stuart and reassured him "after this, come back to mine and we’ll break open a packet of tasty Tunnock teacakes. You know how that always made you feel better when you used to skin your knee as a kid" "Uhhh how sweet" Dylan’s mum cooed to Donna.

So, team talks over and back onto the pitch the players ran, with Craig now being replaced by Ryan. At this point it was noticed that Mark Girling had disappeared! No one knows the full story but it quickly spread that during reffing the first period he had ripped his tights and had go home for a new pair!

Dyce forced an early corner and this produced a shot from Dylan, which was again saved . The game went through a scrappy spell with neither side taking a grip on the game. It was then that Brad picked up a ball in midfield took a couple of strides forward and scored with a low shot passed the keeper.

Ryan then had a long shot saved before Liam had a good run and cross from wide after a layoff from Ryan. This followed good break up play by Matty, who has looked strong in both games, and another fine save by Nathan.

Brad came off for Craig - this could have been a problem for Dyce as once again Brad’s work rate had been amazing. But hey, with Craig now in the side, Liam so strong this year and Dylan tackling like a terrier, Dyce shuffled the pack and looked comfortable.

Dyce went 3 up after Liam opened up the defence with a run and accurate ball through to Ryan which he touched in.

It was the same combo that created the fourth allowing Ryan through on the keeper to slot it in. 4-0

At this point Dyce were looking strong in all areas and regained their passing game, with Angus now supplying a variation of passes to all three up front which kept the Kemnay defence guessing. The boys enjoyed having Angus back as he was taking a lot of pressure off the defence by sitting just in front and carrying the loose balls forward.

5-0 Dyce. This time it was Ryan who cut in from wide and slotted a ball through the defence for Liam to score as Dylan was winding up to strike.

Dylan then had hard luck with two one-on-one’s with the keeper, the first going just wide and, you guessed it, the keeper saving the second. Brad then reappeared for Mattie in time to see three attempts blocked and saved before Liam got his second and Dyce’s sixth. 6-0

FINAL WHISTLE.

All in all a good performance by the boys against a Kemnay side that look like they will learn and get stronger with each game. A special mention has to go to one of their defenders who was called Jordan. There are not many opposition defenders who have coped and stopped Dylan, Ryan and Craig like he did. Sometimes outnumbered he still broke up attack after attack with strong tackling and good awareness - one to watch.
