Dyce Boys Club FC  2 - 1  Albion BC

Sunday 2nd November 2008

Webster Park, Kingswells

With everyone back from holiday, there was a full squad at Jake’s disposal on this crisp clear morning.

In the early exchanges Cameron Shore had been sticking like glue to the Albion striker, but after a couple of early Dyce attacks had come to nothing, he fouled him around the halfway line.  An Albion player fired the ball goalwards, but Glenn Murison headed the ball over, and from the second corner an Albion player shot over the bar.  Liam Strachan won the ball with a strong tackle, drove forward and fed Bruce Anderson, who played in a dangerous cross but it went over Bradley Neish’s head.

Dyce got their first effort on target when a free-kick from Bruce was saved by the keeper.  At the other end, another free-kick was dealt with by Glenn heading over again for another corner.  From the corner, Matty Dick picked up the ball and fed Bradley who released Bruce on the right wing.  When his cross came into the centre Glenn was falling as he tried to strike and his shot went wide.  Albion tried their luck with another long-range free-kick, and the ball just whistled just past Ross Irvine’s left hand post.  Jake brought on Angus Burrows for Cameron, and he continued the man-marking job on the Albion striker.

Glenn won possession in the middle and released Bruce on the right, but his shot went across the face of goal and behind.  Dyce got their noses in front when Bruce crossed from the right and the in-rushing Fraser Wyness bulleted a header into the top corner [1-0].  Unfortunately Fraser’s dad missed the goal as he was retrieving a ball from the field behind the other goal at the time!  The Dyce attacks were now starting to flow….Glenn played a ball over the defence for Bruce in space, but his shot cannoned off the far post and back into play.  The Albion defence couldn’t get the ball clear and Glenn shot goalwards but the keeper saved.  Bruce then crossed to Matty at the back post but his effort was saved.  This was Matty’s last action of the first half as he went off hurt after a tough challenge on the touchline.

Another Dyce attack up the right wing found Bruce in acres of space….he lined up another cross right onto Fraser’s head but this time his connection wasn’t firm enough and the ball drifted past the back post.  After an effort from Bradley hit the bar, Albion managed to relieve the pressure when they won yet another free-kick around halfway, but again the drilled effort went narrowly past Ross’ left hand post.  The half finished with Bruce beating three players to create room to shoot, but the ball went over the bar.

Half-time 1 - 0

From the kick-off Albion worked the ball up the left wing and when the ball arrived in the middle there was an almighty stramash before a shot struck the post.  After surviving that scare, Dyce attacked up the right wing and won a throw in – the ball was thrown in to Bruce Anderson who fired in a high cross/shot that went through the smallest of gaps between the keeper’s outstretched fingertips and the crossbar to double the lead [2-0].

Albion responded immediately with an effort the crashed off the bar, and another fine attacking move involving a number of one-twos.  Next, Albion forced a corner, but Dyce defended it well and launched a counter-attack….Bruce fed the ball infield to Glenn but his shot was over the crossbar.  Both teams were attacking at every opportunity, but both defences were strong and restricting each other to long range efforts.

From the next Albion attack one of their players found himself in space around 20 yards out and unleashed a powerful shot towards the top corner – Angus couldn’t quite stretch enough to reach it with his head and the ball rocketed into the net [2-1].  The Dyce goal lead a charmed life moments later when Albion struck the crossbar yet again, but they managed to ease the mounting pressure by retaining possession for a long period of time to get a foothold back in the game.

Liam played a pass to Fraser on the left wing and he fired in a shot, but it went across the face of goal.  At the other end, an Albion player picked up a loose ball and was about to strike when Cameron arrived to make a timely block.  The final attack ended with Glenn passing to Matty on the left, but his shot was pushed round the post by the keeper.

Full-time 2 - 1

This was an excellent game between two very evenly matched teams.  There were more fouls in this game than we will see all season, but it was not a dirty game....just a case of two very competitive teams giving it their all.  Dyce had the better of the first half, but Albion were stronger in the second period.  Overall there were few clear-cut chances and there was little between the teams.

Scorers:
Fraser Wyness 1
Bruce Anderson 1
