Dyce Boys Club FC  9 - 1  Culter BC

Sunday 5th October 2008

Webster Park, Kingswells

As the boys arrived, the news was that Cammy and Matty were not available today. Cammy was on duty elsewhere with Dyce FC and Matty had one of the sickness bugs going around. Some quick arithmetic by someone, obviously not one of the dads, worked out that we would only have 6 outfield players but Jake had a cunning plan and had drafted in Ross Craigen from the u10’s.

Just prior to kick off there was a horrible realisation that the dads would be without their usual morning roll - as the teas and coffees would be elsewhere.

Now on to the game, the boys lined up with Glenn and Liam in defence and Ross Craigen at right midfield. The pitch was heavy after the overnight rain and there was a strong wind blowing which would test the fitness of the boys given that they would not get a break.

After the kick off Dyce lost the ball early and Culter mounted an attack which was blocked out by Liam and Glen. At the other end of the pitch Fraser eventually realised that running at full speed into a head wind and not breathing was not a good idea!  However, he quickly recovered and produced a shot from a tight angle which was saved by the Culter keeper. Shortly after, a Culter pass back was picked up by their keeper and resulted in a free kick to Dyce. Bradley lined up for the attempt but his shot went narrowly past. Bruce then won the ball in midfield and shot at goal but this also went past the post.

Fraser then produced a couple of runs and crosses with no takers but there was a feeling a goal was immanent. That goal duly arrived after a short corner from Fraser to Bruce, who made space for the shot and Dyce were one up.

Dyce were creating a lot of attacks with Bradley, Bruce, Fraser and Ross all having shots on goal but they were either saved or just off target. Liam and Glen were controlling things at the back which allowed them time to push upfield and try their luck at some long range shooting. Just before half time Dyce doubled their lead when a great pass from Glenn released Ross who charged towards goal and he coolly slotted the ball past the advancing Culter keeper.

Half Time 2 – 0

Culter kicked off the second half and advanced towards the Dyce goal but Glenn stepped up , won the ball and his quick pass released Ross. Unfortunately the ball just ran away from him and out of play for a goal kick.

Dyce were soon 3 – 0 up when good play and a pass from Fraser on the left found Bradley who finished well.

Liam and Glen were well on top in defence and, with the Culter forwards quieter than expected, Dyce were able to build attack after attack and keep up the pressure on the Culter goal. Dyce scored again when Glen picked out Bruce who quickly passed to Bradley. He coolly finished to make it 4 – 0.

Dyce’s fifth goal came after a great run by Fraser who beat 2 Culter players and despatched a powerful shot into the Culter net to make it 5 - 0.

Culter then started to put together some attacks but some excellent defending from Liam and Glen limited them to shooting from distance. However, with Dyce pressing forward, a clearance from their keeper resulted in the Culter forward picking up the ball between Glen and Liam and he finished well past Ross who, up until then, had little to do. 5 – 1.

This stung Dyce back into action and, with play being switched from side to side and Culter looking as if they were starting to tire, there would be more chances to score. Some good build up play from Glen and Bruce set up Bradley and he got his hat-trick and made it 6 – 1.

An excellent tackle from Liam on the right stopped a Culter attack and his pass released Ross whose pace got him past the Culter defence, his cross finding Bradley whose shot on goal was blocked. The rebound only went as far as Bruce who calmly shot high into the Cutler goal for 7 - 1.

Dyce were still driving forward in search of more goals with Fraser and Ross having shots saved by the Culter keeper. However the constant pressure eventually resulted in Bruce getting his hat trick after a good run and cross from Fraser. 8 – 1. There was just time for Bradley to latch onto a pass from Ross on the right, switch the ball onto his left foot and smash a powerful shot into the net.

Final score 9 - 1

Despite having a couple of players away and no subs this was a very strong performance by the boys. A big thanks to Ross Craigen for stepping in and putting in a great contribution.
