Dyce BC  3 - 0  Middlefield Wasps

Sunday 2nd November 2008

at Potterton

1st Period

On a glorious day for football at Potterton, Dyce Under 12s made very heavy weather of it to overcome a spirited Middlefield side.

Despite the sunny weather Dyce never really got going and from the very start Middlefield were first into the attack and a long range shot from their midfielder tested Dyce keeper Charlie Allardes in the 1st  minute. Charlie was called into action again in the 4th  minute, to clutch another long range effort from Middlefield.

However, Alex Cobban on the right flank for Dyce began to see a bit of the ball and posed a threat with his runs and crosses and in the 8th minute he was found deep in the Middlefield half with a fine pass, courtesy of Shane Pirie from defence and Alex’s low cross was met by Aaron Penny, who had made a run from midfield and prodded the ball home from six yards to give Dyce a 1-0 lead.

It might have been logical to assume that Dyce would have been motivated by this, but they continued to huff and puff and it wasn’t until the 15th minute that they were able to threaten the Middlefield goal again, with Jordan Cromar shooting narrowly past from just inside the box after a good pass from Dylan Mcelwee set him up. Meanwhile, much of the heroics on the Dyce side were being performed by Shane Pirie, using his pace, Adam Monk, using his positional sense, and Charlie Allardes, using his fine goalkeeping  in defence, to deal with dangerous raids from Middlefield as they tried to get back on level terms.

First Period:  Dyce 1   Middlefield Wasps  0

2nd Period

Middlefield started the second period off and straight away were into the attack , with their striker making his way into the Dyce penalty area and releasing a drive which, much to the relief of the Dyce defence, hit the side netting.

Soon after, Shane Pirie saved the day for Dyce, with a magnificent tackle, just as the Middlefield striker was about to pull the trigger.

In the 4th minute of the second period, one of Dyce’s best moves of the match started off with Adam Monk in defence who cleared up to Aaron Penny in midfield. Aaron then found Dylan Mcelwee who in turn put JD Gray away up the left wing. JD made his way into the Middlefield penalty area but shot wide.

Middlefield were still searching for the equaliser and this time Ben Leslie in the Dyce defence had to look lively and put in a crucial tackle to keep his team ahead and his defensive colleagues, Shane Pirie, Adam Monk and keeper Charlie Allardes, were still being kept very busy.

At the end of the second period Dyce started to enjoy some possession and Calum Simmer, on his debut, had a long range shot saved by the Middlefield keeper after being set up with the chance by Jordan Cromar. However, in the 18th minute, Dan Middler passed to  Dylan Mcelwee on the edge of the Middlefield penalty area and he squared to Calum Simmer who shot low into the corner of the net for his first Dyce goal and put them 2-0 up.

Second Period : Dyce  2   Middlefield Wasps  0

3rd Period

The third period followed a similar pattern to the previous two with Dyce breaking forward sporadically and having to absorb counter attacks from Middlefield. Middlefield came close to scoring in the 5th minute of the period after they won a free kick just outside the Dyce penalty area, but their No. 10 drove narrowly over the bar.

In the 12th minute Dyce sealed the match when Jordan Clark pushed the ball through for Jordan Cromar  in the Middlefield penalty area and the striker shot low and hard into the net to give Dyce a 3-0 lead.

Final Score : Dyce BC U12  3   Middlefield Wasps U12  0

Man of the Match: JD Gray

Not one of your better performances lads, but credit to Middlefield Wasps for making life difficult for us.
