LKB United 1 - 6 Dyce BC Sunday 2nd November 2008 Violet Park, Lochgelly Scottish Cup - 3rd Round Dyce travelled to the Kingdom of Fife for this Scottish Cup third round tie against Lochgelly's LKB United and after last weeks disappointing result would be determined to play much better and force an away victory. The grass was on the long side, the line markings wide and rutted but overhead conditions were almost perfect as both teams prepared to do battle. Dyce started brightly and took the game to LKB forcing a couple of early half half chances with Grant Thomson having a twenty five yard low shot easily saved by the home keeper and Craig MacAskill having a run and shot from the right also saved by the keeper. Dyce were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after Drew Copeland was upended but Thomas Robertson's low shot hit the defensive wall and was easily cleared. Another free kick for Dyce, this time from thirty yards taken by Stuart Close forced the keeper to save low down and Grant Thomson was unlucky to knock the rebound wide for a goal kick. LKB weathered the early storm and almost scored the first goal with a shot from the edge of the box that clipped the cross bar on the way over after Dyce failed to clear a right wing corner. The tall fair haired number seven was starting to cause Dyce some problems but Nathan Greig was on top form and made two great defensive tackles in the left back position to clear impending danger. Dyce scored the all important first goal when CALUM WILSON slotted home from eight yards after the home keeper could not hold a fierce twenty yard shot from Kenny Mair and Drew Copeland almost made it two but the keeper managed to save the cross shot from the left wing. LKB responded and Daniel Tootill had to look lively and save two dangerous left sided crosses as the home team fought for the equaliser.Goal number two for Dyce was scored by DREW COPELAND when he charged down a defensive clearance and showed good composure to slot past the keeper from ten yards. Craig MacAskill might have scored a couple, but hit the cross bar and also shot wide of the far post. Calum Wilson and Robbie Collinson were providing good width on both sides as Dyce continued to make enough chances to have the game won by half time. LKB were defending in large numbers and survived a couple of goal mouth scrambles as Dyce pushed for the third goal and just before half time Craig MacAskill shot just wide after a great reverse pass from Drew Copeland. Half Time LKB 0 Dyce 2 Dyce came out for the second half with the sun in their eyes and made the worst possible start by conceding a goal in the first minute when the ever dangerous number seven had a great right wing run and cross partially saved by Daniel Tootill but the rebound was knocked in from five yards by the home striker. The away side were under pressure and had to survive a nervy five minute spell as LKB pushed forward for the equaliser. Goals change games and Dyce hit the home team with two in a minute to take control of the game again. ROBBIE COLLINSON was in the right place at the right time to slot home from ten yards after good play on the right involving Craig MacAskill and Drew Copeland. Goal number four came a minute later and was scored by DREW COPELAND from close in after a long ball from Robbie Collinson was flicked on by Craig MacAskill. The two quick goals seemed to knock a little spirit out of LKB but they continued to work hard and the tall number nineteen had a good thirty yard shot deflected wide for a corner. Kenny Mair and Grant Thomson were controlling the midfield area as Dyce started to pass the ball with greater authority even in the long grass. Thomas Robertson flattened the tall number seven with a high challenge and was lucky to escape a yellow card and then Jack Goodwin made the tackle of the game to halt LKB's number seven again. Ross Cochrane made a good break from the right back area to win a right sided corner which was scrambled clear by the now overworked home defence. Lewis Michie headed wide from a long Stuart Close free kick and Kenny Mair shot over from fifteen yards as Dyce pushed forward for more goals. Paul Noble took over in goals from Daniel Tootill and looked very assured as Dyce were determined not to concede any more goals. CAMERON BUCHAN scored the last two goals for Dyce, his first from an almost impossible angle and the second a low controlled shot from close in after Grant Thomson's shot rebounded off an upright. Lewis Michie was unlucky again on two occasions, firstly the substitute keeper made a brilliant save to keep out a cracking strike and then Lewis just header over from a deep Jack Goodwin corner. Full Time LKB 1 Dyce 6 Well played boys, a battling performance and a good response to last week's poor result. Dyce Boys Club would like to thank LKB United for their kind hospitality, before, during and after the game and wish them well in the rest of their domestic season. Steve, Les |
