Scottish Cup - First Round

After last week's huge disappointment the boys were asked to go out play football and enjoy the occasion of the Scottish Cup.  The 1st round had drawn together the teams who finished 1st and 2nd in the A league last year, surely seeding must be looked at in the future to avoid this.

The game started off like a boxing match with both teams sizing each other up. Deveronvale created the first chance when their player ran onto a through ball in the 18 yard box but Dan was brave and saved at the forward's feet. Tomo and Grant were starting to take control of the midfield and the defence was taking care of any attacks thrown at them. The number five and six of Deveronvale were having a fine game and were clearing anything Dyce threw at them. Dyce were now applying pressure and forced four or five corners in ten minutes. A glancing header from Austin from one of the corners went narrowly wide. Neat play between Nathan, Stuart and Austin turned defence into attack which forced another corner.

Half-time 0-0

The guys were asked to go out and continue to play the way they played the first half but to get more shots in.  We were now starting to get the ball wide and Robbie on the left was causing problems to the Deveronvale defence. Dyce were getting closer to the important first goal and two free-kicks from Stuart brought out saves from the Keeper. Dyce were now on top and the pressure paid off when a great ball from Robbie found Drew Copeland at the far post. He controlled the ball and drilled an unstoppable shot past the keeper. The goal seemed to relax Dyce and we were now playing some decent football. Goal two came when some fine play from Dyce ended with Craig MacAskill riffling a shot in from 16 yards. To Deveronvale’s credit they battled to the end but our defence stood strong.

Final Score 2-0

A much improved performance from the boys and it needed to be against a well organized Deveronvale team. We now go on and meet Insch and District in the 2nd round

Well Done boys!

Steve, Les
