Dyce BC 3 - 1 Deveronvale Sunday 21st September 2008 Pitmedden Road Great Northern Trophies League A Today’s opponents were Deveronvale. After last week's tight game against them in the Scottish Cup we knew we would have to be at our best to get all three points. Deveronvale were first on the attack when their lively forward had a great shot from 18 yards out, but Dan, in goals, pulled off a great save. Dyce were starting to play football and were creating chances, the first coming from a corner which was meet by a fine run and header from eight yards from Grant, which went narrowly wide. A great one-two between Callum and Drew ended in a shot from Nic which also went narrowly wide. The first goal came from a corner from Nic which caused confusion in the Deveronvale 18 yard box, the ball going to Drew Copeland who drilled in a high shot from 12 yards to give Dyce the lead. Dyce carried out the tasks they were asked to apply pressure on the ball, and Craig MacAskill, up front, was having a fine game causing the Deveronvale defenders lots of problems. The half ended at 1-0 to Dyce. Half-time 1-0 The second half started off with Deveronvale having the bulk of the play and it was no surprise when they equalised. A shot from 25 yards looked harmless enough until it took a deflection and passed Dan in goals who, like me, thought it was going wide. A couple of fine runs and balls in from Robbie created two chances for Dyce but neither were taken. Dyce again were now well on top and a great through ball saw Cammy run between 2 defenders and on towards goal, but his shot went wide. It was no surprise when Dyce took the lead again. Another corner was played in and again meet by Drew Copeland who made no mistake from close range. Deveronvale attacks were now being dealt with by the impressive Tomo and Austin, both of whom were having a fine game. Dyce’s third and final goal came from a fine free kick played in by Craig and was met at the back post by Cammy Buchan. Jack Goodwin ,who came on as a sub, was also having a fine game and was causing the Deveronvale defensive problems. Final Score 2-0 A good result and performance from the boys against a good Deveronvale team who, if they continue to play like today, the results they deserve. It was pleasing again to see the defenders play football from the back and linking up with the midfield. All 15 boys played their part today – Well Done! Steve, Les |
