Dyce welcomed
Peterhead Boys Club to Pitmedden Road for the first match of the season
and after the miserable away day blues of April the home team would have
to show their best form to get a result. Considering the recent wet
weather the pitch was in excellent shape and overhead conditions were
dry and sunny as both teams eagerly awaited kick off.
Dyce started brightly and Kenny Mair had a shot from twenty five yards
well saved low down by the Peterhead goalkeeper and almost immediately
after,
Drew Copeland scored the first goal with an excellent
high shot from twenty five yards. Grant Thomson played in Craig
MacAskill with a good pass but the away keeper reacted quickly and made
a good save. The home team were now well on top, playing neat triangular
football and stretching Peterhead in the wide areas as they probed more
goal scoring opportunities. Grant Thomson scored goal
number two for Dyce with a firm cross shot from the edge of the
box after good passing on the right between Calum Wilson and Craig
MacAskill.
Drew Copeland was looking lively and forced the away team to concede a
corner with a good run into the box. Then Drew set up Craig MacAskill
for another shot, again well saved by the now overworked Peterhead
keeper. Austen Morley had to be alert in defence and head clear a
dangerous cross from the right as Peterhead tried to come more into the
game and Daniel Tootill, making his debut in the Dyce goals, had to move
smartly off his line to clear a couple of fast away attacks.
Austen Morley tried his luck at the other end and just headed over the
cross bar from a left wing corner taken by Craig MacAskill. The third
goal arrived soon after for Dyce and was scored by Craig MacAskill
with a cracking shot over the keeper's head from the edge of the box.
Almost immediately after,
Drew Copeland scored goal number four with a low shot
from twenty yards into the corner that deceived the Peterhead goalie.
Kenny Mair and Grant Thomson were controlling the midfield area and it
was no surprise when Craig MacAskill scored goal number
five for the home team with a low shot from close in after an excellent
run and cut back by Robbie Collinson.
Calum Wilson scored goal number six for Dyce from fifteen
yards after good interplay between Robbie Collinson and Drew Copeland
and goal number seven followed quickly and was scored by Kenny
Mair with a simple sided foot shot from eighteen yards after
strong run and cross on the right by Calum Wilson. Almost right on the
half time whistle Grant Thomson cracked a great shot off the cross bar
after another cut back from Calum Wilson.
Half Time Dyce 7 Peterhead 0
The half time team talk was short and to the point - excellent first
half, keep passing the ball, keep the team shape and discipline and more
goals would come.
Dyce made a couple of changes for the second period and started brightly
again with Jack Goodwin scoring goal number eight within a
few minutes of the restart. Jack scored his goal with a smart turn and
shot into the far corner after good passing and movement between Ross
Cochrane and Kenny Mair. Robbie Collinson had a thirty yard run in the
inside left channel and set up a half chance for Lewis Michie, but Lewis
just drifted offside and the chance was lost. Nathan Greig pushed
forward from the left back position and his deep cross from the left was
missed by three onrushing Dyce players and the ball drifted behind for a
goal kick.
Thomas Robertson, now in his more favoured position of
centre midfield, scored goal number nine for Dyce with a low shot from
twenty yards after some excellent triangular passing on the left.
Peterhead continued to work hard and Lewis Grant had to be strong in
defence on a couple of occasions to help prevent an away score.
Grant Thomson scored goal number ten with a left foot volley
from the edge of the box after a Robbie Collinson corner on the left.
Goal number eleven was scored by Cammy Buchan, coolly lobbing the keeper
from fifteen yards after an excellent through ball from Lewis Michie
Dyce continued to swap players, possibly upsetting the balance of the
team and allowing Peterhead to come into the game in the last ten
minutes. Austen Morley and his fellow defenders had to look lively to
keep a clean sheet. Paul Noble made the save of the game late on,
tipping a fierce drive from fifteen yards over for a corner and Dyce had
two or three late chances but failed to add to the goals tally, although
Drew Copeland and Craig MacAskill were both very unlucky not to score
again and gain their hat tricks.
The game ended with Dyce winning well against a plucky Peterhead side.
Well played boys. An excellent start to the season, good passing
football and a superb cutting edge.
