Stoneywood Ajax 2 - 1 Dyce BC Sunday 26th October 2008 Kirkton of Skene Eddie Mannall Trophy - 1st Round Dyce travelled to Kirkton of Skene for this First Round Tie of the Eddie Mannall Trophy against a Stoneywood Ajax team who sit top of the B League section two. The grass was a little on the long side but overhead conditions bright and sunny as Dyce started their first game in three weeks. The away team started brightly enough and the pattern of the first half saw Dyce have most of the play but fail to convert territorial advantage into goals. Kenny Mair, Craig MacAskill, Grant Thomson, Drew Copeland and Jack Goodwin all had decent efforts at goal but the cutting edge was lacking and with Stoneywood defending in large numbers Dyce failed to score. Midway through the first half the home team took the lead from the penalty spot after Stuart Close tripped the big striker in the box. Daniel Tootill was unlucky not to save the penalty but the shot just evaded his right hand and crept low into the corner of the net. Dyce were caught with too many players ahead of the ball and lost a second goal just before the interval when a left wing cross eluded Daniel allowing the home striker a simple tap in from three yards. Half Time Stoneywood 2 Dyce 0 Dyce came out for the second half with their ears ringing and were determined to get back into the match as soon as possible but sadly for the away team the the pattern of play continued exactly as the first half. Dyce got a goal back in fifteen minutes when KENNY MAIR slotted home from ten yards after a good pass from Craig MacAskill. Chances came and went and Stoneywood fought like fury to keep Dyce out with their goalkeeper inspiring his defence with four or five great saves. Cammy Buchan hit a post and headed over, Jack Goodwin, Craig MacAskill, Grant Thomson and Drew Copeland all had good chances to score but failed to find the net. In the last two minutes Thomas Robertson could have scored a couple but just failed to hit the target and the game ended with Daniel Tootill saving a free kick from twenty yards at the second attempt. Full Time Stoneywood Ajax 2 Dyce 1 For Dyce, a very disappointing performance and result but on the day the underdogs deserved their victory. Well boys, no credits today and unless there is a 100% improvement, we will face a miserable bus journey back from Fife next Sunday. Steve, Les |
