Dyce BC 7 - 2 Insch & District FC Sunday 28th September 2008 Pitmedden Road Scottish Cup - 2nd Round Dyce welcomed Insch & District FC to Pitmedden Road for this Scottish Cup Second Round tie and would expect a strong challenge from the country team. The pitch was in excellent shape and overhead conditions perfect as the home team kicked off facing a slight breeze. Dyce started brightly and a good right sided move involving five players released Ross Cochrane, and his run and cross earned a corner which was easily cleared by the Insch defence. More good movement on the right between Jack Goodwin and Lewis Michie set up Grant Thomson for a half chance, but the Referee ruled offside before the shot could be taken. Play switched to the left and sharp passing from Robbie Collinson and Nathan Greig earned Dyce another corner, again cleared by the away defence. The home team were well on top and Drew Copeland had a shot from the edge of the box well saved by the Insch goalkeeper, but suddenly, out of the blue, the away team scored the first goal with a speculative high shot from thirty yards by their centre midfield player over Paul Noble's head into the top corner. Dyce continued to play passing football but lacked quality with the final ball and the cutting edge was missing. Dyce continued to push forward and Drew Copeland had a good run and cross from the left just missing the far post and behind for a goal kick. Both Jack Goodwin and Nathan Greig had shots well saved by the now busy away keeper but in a flash Dyce were level when Thomas Robertson scored with a firm low strike from twenty five yards into the corner after a lay off from Grant Thomson. Drew Copeland scored the second goal for Dyce with a low shot into the corner from fifteen yards after an excellent through pass from Thomas Robertson. Dyce were well on top again but continued to squander chances and seemed to be trying to score the perfect goal. Lewis Michie had a couple of half chances from left sided crosses by Robbie Collinson but the Insch defence continued to to keep Dyce out, with a mixture of good play and luck. Against the run of play Insch equalised when a twenty five yard free kick came off the cross bar and the away striker was the first to react and score easily from five yards. Insch gained in confidence and took the game to Dyce forcing both Stuart Close and Austen Morley to make last ditch clearances and Paul Noble had to make two sharp saves to keep the score level. Robbie Collinson had a chance from fifteen yards but shot wide and Thomas Robertson blasted over from eighteen yards after a good run and cut back from Drew Copeland. Half Time Dyce 2 Insch 2 A few harsh words words were spoken at half time, four changes made and Dyce were invited to up the performance in the second half and get the match won as quickly as possible. The home team started in a positive manner and Stuart Close had a twenty five yard free kick well saved by the Insch keeper. Then another free kick from the edge of the box by Grant Thomson was again saved low down by the keeper. Just as it looked to be one of these days when your opponents seem to be living a charmed life the game changed in a five minute spell with Dyce scoring three goals. Goal number three for Dyce (at last) scored by Grant Thomson with a low shot from the edge of the box after an excellent cut back from Cameron Buchan. Goal number four came a minute later and was scored by Craig MacAskill with a neat lob from eight yards after a massive goal kick from Paul Noble. Craig MacAskill doubled his tally, to score number five, with a sharp turn and shot from twenty five yards to deceive the impressive Insch keeper. Goals change games and the quick three goal burst seemed to deflate the away team and Dyce were now controlling the game and pushing for more goals. Nathan Greig was unlucky after a good run and shot from fifteen yards was well saved by the substitute goalkeeper at the expense of a corner. Grant Thomson scored goal number six for the home side from fifteen yards after a right wing cross from Drew Copeland was helped on by Craig MacAskill. Kenny Mair had a strong left sided run to force another corner as Dyce continued to make and miss chances. Dyce went three along the back for the last ten minutes and Calum Wilson had to look lively to stop a couple of fast counter attacks from Insch and Ross Cochrane had a speculative effort from twenty five yards that just cleared the far post. Goal number seven ended the scoring for the day and came from Robbie Collinson with a firm shot from fifteen yards after a good run and square pass by Calum Wilson. The game ended with Dyce winning well enough against a hard working competitive Insch side. Well done boys - big second half show to win the match. Steve, Les |
