Dyce BC 20 - 0 Byron Thistle Sunday 14th September 2008 Potterton Scottish Cup - First Round Expectations were high for the Dyce side coming off of a great second half performance last week against Colony Park, and the Dyce squad did not disappoint today. With the loss of Peter Melvin during the week due to a broken foot ( get well soon Pete ), Fraser Burrows failing a fitness test with a foot injury, and Ross Beattie being rested on the bench due to an ankle injury, Levi Kelman was brought in at the centre of defence for his first competitive start in a Dyce jersey. With Martyn Fraser starting at left back the game kicked off and as expected it was one way traffic towards the Byron goal. The only real surprise was that it took 20 minutes for Dyce to open the scoring with Liam McCall reacting first to a loose ball to blast home from close range. Byron had little answer to the Dyce passing and build up play. With Russell Masson controlling things at the back and some great supporting work from both full backs, Calum Tremain and Martyn Fraser, it didn’t take long for Dyce to take full control and finish the game before half time. Connor Legge with 4 goals, Liam Smith with a first half hat-trick, singles from Ryan Burr and Andy Smith put Dyce on easy street. Half-time Dyce 10 - Byron 0 Dyce continued where they had left off in the first half with the impressive Andy Smith adding to his tally. Captain Gary Grant continued to push his troops forward and Liam McCall contributed with a further 3 goals to bring his tally to 4 for the game, the last being a super low shot from 20 yards into the keepers bottom right hand corner. However the superb play of Calum Tremain was rewarded when he scored the goal of the game with a screaming right foot effort from 25 yards, which the keeper could only watch flying into the top right hand corner. Liam Smith then completed his scoring for the game by bagging his fourth. With Lewis Kidd giving the Byron left side a torrid time with his skilful runs Dyce showed no sign of letting up. Scott Fuerst in the Dyce goal was enjoying a well deserved quiet afternoon in goal, after his heroics from the previous week. When he was called into action he dealt with everything confidently and comfortably. Andy Smith finally completed his hat-trick. Connor Legge then got back in the act with 3 further second half goals to bring his tally to 7 for the game and to bring a close to the scoring. Full Time Dyce 20 - Byron 0 A fine Dyce performance against a plucky Byron side that always played with a smile on their faces. At times when we used the width and played down the channels, the football was excellent. If we continue to play to our strengths & work hard on the training pitch we will be ready for the stiffer challenges ahead in the Cup and League campaigns.Steve, Dave and Kev. |
