Dyce BC 8 - 0 Deveronvale Sunday 26th October 2008 Potterton Belmont Trophy The game kicked off in bright but blustery conditions, with the Dyce lads determined to put the disappointment of the league defeat against Lewis United behind them. And it was Matthew Diack, making his home debut in goal, who almost opened the scoring after 5 minutes, when a wind assisted clearance forced the visiting keeper into touching the ball over his bar for a corner. Dyce opened the scoring in 10 minutes when a corner from the right found Callum Tremaine, whose shot from the edge of the box slipped through the keeper's grasp, to give Dyce a deserved lead. Dyce increased their lead after 20 minutes when a well worked move down the left side saw Andy Smith square the ball to Liam Smith, who made no mistake from 8 yards. Dyce was determined to add to the score and was only denied by some fine saves from the visiting keeper, growing in confidence after his earlier error. However he could do nothing when Conner Legge burst through the defence to send an angled shot into the net to make it 3-0. Deveronvale could not get the better of the Dyce defence who were being well marshalled by Rusty, with Fraser Burrows working well up and down the left hand side. However they did miss a great chance to get back in the game when a ball from the Dyce left was headed over from close range. Dyce closed out the first half on a high when Captain Gary Grant fired home his first goal of the season to put Dyce 4-0 up. Like you say Gary “About time to” Half Time Dyce 4 - Deveronvale 0 Although 4-0 up, the Dyce lads were reminded that the contest was far from over and the same focus and effort would be required to close out the game. The lads responded brilliantly and although facing a strong wind looked even better in the second half. Dyce continued to press and the Deveronvale keeper was keeping the score down with some excellent blocking saves. But normal service was resumed after 10 minutes in the second half when the keeper could only push out a rocket from Conner which left Liam Smith with the easiest of tasks to convert for his second goal. Matthew Diack then produced a great save low down to his left to keep his goal intact. Liam McCall was winning everything in midfield and played a great ball through to Conner Legge whose first time shot was pushed wide by the keeper. Connor then reacted brilliantly to chip the ball into the goal from a tight angle to put Dyce 6-0 up. Dyce continued to push and after a neat move down the right Liam Smith supplied a clinical finish low into the keeper’s right hand corner to complete his hat-trick. The scoring was completed by the hard working second half substitute Mike Williamson who capped off a great Dyce performance by firing home from 12 yards to make the final score: Dyce 8 - Deveronvale 0 A brilliant response to the demands of the coaching staff, who have been looking for a reaction to the defeat from Lewis United. All the squad are aware of the standards we expect to play at, and they did not disappoint here. Well done lads. Steve, Dave. |
