Dyce BC  2 - 2   Cove  BC

Saturday 6th September 2008

at Pitmedden Road

Great Northern Trophies League A

The first home game of the season at Pitmedden Road against old rivals Cove BC.

Dyce started the game against the wind and struggled to gain the upper hand, especially in midfield. However in 12 minutes Dyce won a free kick just outside the box and Galley scored his first goal for the club when he placed a left foot shot past the keeper. 1-0. Ten minutes later Dyce completed their first task from the "Poor Defending Manual". Dyce had been warned about the danger from Cove's long throw ins and did not attack the ball. Cove headed on the throw in into the goalmouth and probably the smallest Cove player, unchallenged, headed into the net for the equaliser. 1-1. Dyce then carried out their second task from the "Poor Defending Manual". A long Cove clearance was not shielded over the Dyce goal line properly and the pressing Cove forward was allowed to hook it from the line into the net for a wind assisted goal.

1-2. Half time.

Dyce needed to up the tempo, start winning the first and second ball both at the back and in midfield.  Halfway through the second half, Callum Smith broke down the right and was brought down in the box as he bore down on goal.  Hunter stepped up to calmly slot the penalty past the right side of the keeper for his first goal of the season. 2-2. Dyce huffed and puffed for the rest of the half but were unconvincing and only produced a couple of shots near the goal. I'm sure the Cove keeper hadn't a single save to make.

Full time 2-2.

A very poor game where the Cove midfield were allowed to play the ball about without any serious pressure from Dyce and the quality of the passing when the ball was won, only reached nearly good on sporadic occasions.
