Scottish Cup - 2nd Round

Another away fixture in the Scottish Cup, this time a 2nd round tie against potential B league leaders Peterhead BC Athletic.

The first half was disappointing from a Dyce perspective as the players struggled to compete against a strong Peterhead team which belied their B league status.  Time after time, when defending, Dyce let the ball bounce instead of attacking it in the air.  This allowed Peterhead to regain possession easily.  However, the highlight of the first half was a training ground executed move.  The ball was played from midfield out wide to Galley on the left, and his searching cross back into the box reached the strikers making cross over runs where Callum Smith powered a header into the net. 0-1.  Later, excellent football from Peterhead cut through the Dyce defence and they scored a deserved equaliser.

Half time: 1 - 1

Dyce came out for the second half looking more determined to compete in all areas of the pitch.  Good midfield football gave Buchan a chance to place a right foot shot into the top corner but the keeper brought off a flying save to tip the ball over for a corner. Halfway through the half, a good passing move allowed Callum Smith a chance in the box but he was fouled by the keeper and had to be taken off injured.  Hunter carried out his penalty task as only he can. 1-2.  With 7 mins to go, a Westland free kick from the left was deftly flicked on by McKenzie and Buchan finished off the move by heading past the keeper. 1-3.  Peterhead tried to come back strongly but Dyce battled well to keep them out.

Full time: 1 - 3

Again Dyce showed their mettle by battling and competing well in the second half.  However, this has to be done for the whole 80 mins if they want to win any silverware.  The players have to have more self belief and a greater desire to win the ball so then they can use it properly.
