Peterhead BC  1 - 4   Dyce  BC

Saturday 30th August  2008

at Peterhead

Great Northern Trophies League A

The first game of the season was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch so this fixture away to Peterhead was important to ensure Dyce caught up with the leaders.

Playing downhill in the balmy weather (must be a first for the "Blue Toon") Dyce were a goal down within two minutes due to a defensive mix up. No one took control as several Dyce players dithered and the Peterhead forward took the opportunity. 1-0.  Dyce struggled to get back into the game but, from a great through pass from Mearns, a left foot finish from Cowie was powered into the net for the equaliser. 1-1.  Ten minutes later another threaded through pass, this time from Hunter, left Cowie galloping in to score his second. 1-2.  Dyce seemed in control however, although there was some neat link up passes in the middle, it closed the game up on a tight pitch.  Murray ran up and down selflessly on the right but Dyce refused to play the ball wide and open up the game.  Right on half time a Brand clearance was pounced on by Buchan and the keeper couldn't hold his blistering shot.  Cowie followed up to complete his hat trick.

HT: 1 - 3

The second half was more of the same with Dyce, having most of the pressure, and another Mearns through ball gave Cowie freedom to score his fourth goal. 1-4.  Buchan caused confusion in the Peterhead defence every time he received the ball and was unlucky not to score.  Peterhead's uncertainty in defence allowed Cowie and others plenty of chance but no further goals.

Dyce won comfortably in the end after a stuffy performance from Peterhead.  Dyce will have to learn to move the ball about quicker, not congest the midfield, and use the wide channels effectively.

Well done boys.

Mike, George, Bob, Johnny.
