Dyce BC 5 - 2 Cove BC Sunday 7th September 2008 Webster Park, Kingswells Sunday marked the start of the season for the boys - players and coaches alike couldn’t wait to get going! We started nervously as you may expect with this being the first game some of the boys had played for the club. We went a goal down early on in the first period after some slack play in defence saw the Cove number 8 steal in and finish. We settled quickly after that and drew level after good play out wide from Liam Naughton set up a chance for Reigan Thomson who drilled his shot into the bottom left hand corner. We then took control of the game and had a succession of near misses from Alex Hampton and Scott Coutts after good work on the wing from Sean McHardy. With only a few minutes remaining we went ahead when a corner was collected by Liam Naughton in the box and he rolled the ball into the path of Alex Hampton who bent a wonderful shot just inside the post. First Period 2-1 We made some changes at half time and this paid off straight away when Gabriel Liddle, on the left, fed the ball to Findlay Stalker who showed great skill in the box, turning cleverly to make room for a shot which he curled into the back of the net. We were really playing good football now but still had to be aware at the back and Ben Barbour in goals kept us in the game on two separate occasions with superb saves. Reigan Thomson then added his second shortly before the whistle when he pounced on a short pass in the Cove defence before smashing the ball into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance. Second Period 4-1 Cove came at us at the start of the third period and Reigan Thomson and James Robson had to be alert at the back to prevent Cove scoring. Our stand-in keeper Alex Hampton had to do a bit more work than he would have liked when he volunteered to go in and was unlucky when he conceded after a mix up in the Dyce defence. We lost our shape a little bit late on in the game but we still created plenty of chances with both Ben Barbour and Liam Naughton forcing the keeper into making terrific saves. We finally added the last goal after really good work from Liam Naughton who hassled the Cove defence into a mistake which Ben Barbour pounced on and his goal bound shot was deflected into the back of the net. Final Score 5-2
A satisfactory start
which gives us a good base to work on for the rest of the season
