Westdyke BC  3 - 7   Dyce BC

Sunday 9th November 2008

at Lawsondale

Due to heavy overnight rain, Webster Park was deemed unplayable but thanks to Westdyke BC the game was switched to Lawsondale.

Conditions were not ideal, with a very strong wind blowing right across the Pitch. This made it very difficult for both sides to play flowing passing football. Westdyke settled much quicker than Dyce and were soon in to their stride putting our defence under severe pressure. It was no surprise when due to an interception, the ball was played down the left, where a Westdyke player cut inside firing a shot into the bottom right corner past Ben. Westdyke took confidence from this, and were now well on top. It took us a full ten minutes to get our first shot at goal, this following a good tackle from Liam. He turned and fired in a good shot which was well saved by the Westdyke keeper. It was no surprise when Westdyke went two up after we failed to clear a corner and the ball was volleyed into the net. Straight from the resulting kick-off Reigan beat three Westdyke players, before firing a low drive into the bottom corner. Westdyke were still playing well, and restored their two goal advantage with a good shot from the left hand side. Just before the end of the first period we produced our best passage of play with Alex playing a good ball into Liam and following a ‘Berbatov’ like turn, he laid the ball into Ross who scored high into the net with a left foot drive.

1st period 3 - 2

After some stern words from the coaching staff, the boys came out in the second period and started to play the football we know they are capable of. It was no surprise, when we drew level following a ‘wonder strike’ from Alex, flew into the top corner. This settled the boys down and with our work rate now at the required level we started to control the game. Following a corner from Reigan Ross had a shot blocked, with the ball falling to Findlay who produced a smart finish.

2nd period 3 - 4

We started the third period as we had finished the second, and were now starting to hem Westdyke into their own half. After winning a free-kick on the edge of the box, Reigan fired a great strike which cannoned off the bar and Liam was unlucky with the rebound which was well saved by the Westdyke keeper. Our next goal came following some good work down the left hand side by Ross who gave a neat pass to Reigan who picked his spot and curled a great shot into the top corner. Following another great tackle by Gabriel he made another strong run laying the ball into Liam who turned and fired a great shot low and past the keeper. Westdyke then showed they were still dangerous and forced Ben into a great save low to his right. Again after a dangerous attack from Westdyke James made a vital tackle and set off down the right hand side. He then played a good ball to Reigan, who fired in a great strike which was parried by the keeper and Sean was on hand to make sure the ball was over the line. Right at the death, following a strong run by Scott he was very unlucky to see his goal bound shot deflected which produced another fine save from the keeper.

Full time 3 - 7

After a below par performance in the first period it was good to see the boys took on board what
they had been told and showed us what they are capable of.
