Dyce BC 8 - 0 Glentanar BC Sunday 14th September 2008 Aulton Sunday saw us kick off our league campaign for this season. We got going straight from the kick off winning the ball from Glentanar’s centre and pressed hard towards goals with Liam Naughton going close. Naughton scored soon afterwards when he cleverly flicked Reigan Thomson’s cross-cum-shot past the keeper for Dyce’s first goal of the season. We were in complete control of the game in the early stages and Glentanar could not get out of their own half due to Liam Naughton defending well from the front. Even with all the possession, we were unable to put away our chances with Reigan and Ross Christie both coming close. Liam Naughton finally made things a bit more comfortable when after a scramble in the box he showed good close control and rifled the ball into the net. Ross Christie and Gabriel Liddle were both causing Glentanar problems in wide positions but we were unable to break down a stuffy Glen’s side who were defending in numbers. We were creating chances but we seemed to lack a little bit of composure in the Glentanar box. Alex Hampton saved the best till the end of the half when he intercepted a pass in his own half, went past three players, opened his body and bent the ball over the keeper into the back of the net. (Even though the coaches thought he should have passed the ball !!!!!!!!!!!!!) Half Time: 3 – 0 We made several changes at half time but the boys started off this half with the same attitude. James Robson won the ball in defence before striding out down the pitch and slipping a perfect pass to Sean McHardy whose shot was well saved and Scott Coutts was unlucky to see his follow up go inches past the post. The Glentanar keeper had to be on top form to stop shots from Reigan Thomson and Findlay Stalker in quick succession. Findlay Stalker didn’t have long to wait for his goal, when from a through ball by James Robson he found himself one on one with the keeper and slipped the ball through the Glentanar stopper’s legs and into the net. We started to lose our shape and we had Ben Barbour in goals to thank for keeping a clean sheet as he made numerous saves and played the sweeper role perfectly clearing any danger posed. Ross Christie was causing all sorts of problems in the midfield with his skilful runs and he set up Findlay Stalker to stick away his second. He quickly got his hat trick when Alex Hampton put a long throw into the box and Stalker brilliantly swivelled as the ball came over his shoulder and volleyed into the roof of the net (something he had obviously been shown in training!!!!!!) Liam Naughton then grabbed his well deserved third goal when he pounced on a loose ball after the keeper had saved Ross Christie’s well struck shot. Ben Barbour again showed great awareness when he rushed from his box to clear a long through ball which found Gabriel Liddle out wide on the right. Gabriel out muscled his Glentanar marker before sending in an inch perfect cross which saw Findlay Stalker grab his fourth with a smart finish. Near the end of the match we lost our shape and this led to a number of half chances for the opposition, the best of which hit the outside of the post. Full Time: 8 – 0 A very good performance from the boys especially the clean sheet because they are so hard to come by at this age group. We did lose our discipline and shape later on in the game which could cause some problems as we go through the season but we will work on this at training. We are playing some fantastic football which we hope to keep going for the rest of the season. A special mention must go to the Glentanar coaches, supporters and players who even though finishing the match with only a squad of seven players never gave up and were offered only encouragement from their sidelines.
