Banchory BC Eagles  1 - 2   Dyce BC

Sunday 21st September 2008

at Banchory

We couldn’t have picked better weather for our first away fixture of the season but the boys were made aware that they had a tough game ahead of them, against a determined Banchory team, on a very tight pitch. We pushed well from the start and through balls from Alex twice found Liam in on goals, but the most we could produce was a corner. Scott then went close with a shot and we penned the Eagles in with three corners in quick succession, but failed to make any of them count. Ross hit the outside of the post with a smart cross but that was only a sign of what was to come. The ball bounced on the half way line and when no one took control Ross hooked the ball goalwards and the helpless keeper could only watch as the ball looped into the net.

1st Period 0 - 1

We made some changes at the start of the second period to try and stretch the game which was becoming extremely congested on the small pitch. It worked almost instantly when a long ball from Gabriel found Finlay one-on-one with the keeper and his brilliant snap volley was unlucky to smash off the post. We doubled our lead after good work on the left, by Sean, found Reigan inside and his right foot shot was too powerful for the stopper to keep out. Almost straight away, though, we conceded when we failed to clear the ball in defence and were closed down. Ben could do nothing with the shot. The boys realised they had to raise their game and we hit the post twice in two minutes after good work by Liam, whose shot beat the keeper but came back off the frame of the goal and a dangerous cross by Ross was deflected onto the post by a Banchory defender.

2nd Period 1  -  2

James was our (un) willing volunteer to go in goals for the last period! Ben had a chance from the kick off but a lack of composure led to him putting the ball past the post. We forced a corner and Alex bravely met Reigan’s kick with a strong header but the keeper saved well. A strong run by Scott forced a free kick on the edge of the box which Alex smashed goal bound but it was painfully blocked by Ben on the line! Sean was sticking to his position on the left well and this led to him twice having a chance on goals and he was unlucky not to get something for his efforts. Banchory now fancied their chances of snatching a draw and our stand in keeper James had to be aware to rush out of his goals to clear the danger well.

Full time 1  -  2

Not the best performance from the boys, who were not helped by the small pitch, but everyone is capable of a lot more composure than we showed. The boys have an excellent ability for passing and opening up teams, but we did not show it today. However, we still won and will continue to work hard in training.   Well done boys!
