Dyce BC  8 - 2   Cove BC

Sunday 26th October 2008

at Webster Park

On a very cold and blustery morning at Kingswells, Dyce kicked off with the wind behind their back and went quickly on the attack. Some great work down the right between Ross and Reigan set Liam free, and his cut back found Reigan who powerfully shot narrowly over. Dyce were dominating with the wind at their back. Alex and James were very assured at the rear, mopping up the ball and launching other attacks. Some more great link-up play between Ross and Liam led to a free kick when Liam was bundled over as he was about to shoot. From the free-kick Liam fired the ball across the face of goal and it only needed a touch to finish. It seemed only a matter of time before Dyce scored, and when it came it was a screamer.  Alex picked the ball up at the back and moved forward before laying the ball into Sean’s path and from twenty yards out SEAN fired it into the top corner.  It was all Dyce now and Liam burst past four Cove players on the right to win a corner. A great corner but Cove cleared well, before Reigan beat three down the left and put in a great cross, which Ross just couldn’t reach at the back post.

Cove started to get more into the game, but Alex and James were defending well, with Cove only having two or three long shots which Ben held well.  The ball broke to Reigan on the right who had time to pick his pass. He found LIAM whose first time shot the keeper did well to reach but he was unable to keep it out. 2-0.

All Dyce now, Liam unselfishly squared the ball to SEAN when clean through on goal and although the Cove keeper saved the first shot, Sean followed in the rebound to make it 3.

Danger at the back though when James misjudged the bounce of the ball in the wind but Ben blocked the shot well.  Dyce were working hard and when Liam harried a Cove defender into a mistake and won a corner, it led to a fourth goal. From the corner, the ball fell to ALEX who swept it into the net with a great left foot shot through a crowd of players.

Just before the end of the period, a great move from Dyce saw Ross send Liam free, who drew the keeper before squaring the ball to SEAN for the easiest of goals.

A great first period from Dyce, some fantastic football and although Sean stole the headlines with a hat-trick, Liam and Ross were linking up well.

First Period:    5  -  0

Two subs at the interval, with Findlay coming on for Ross and Sam, making his debut, coming on for James.

Cove now had the wind at their backs and started to press. Sam and Alex were blocking the route to goal and although Cove forced a few corners, there seemed little risk of a goal. In fact, there seemed more chance of a Dyce goal and when Liam crashed a shot off the post from a tight angle, it could only be a matter of time. The goal came when Alex cleared from a Cove corner and found FINDLAY one on one with the keeper and he gave him no chance. 6-0.

Cove kept pressing and Ben pulled off a couple of fine saves, including one difficult high spinning cross which he took well at his back post. However right on the end of the second period, from another Cove corner, the ball was played across the box and the Cove forward at the back post swept the ball home. 6-1.

Although there was little goalmouth action in the second period, Dyce had to battle hard to keep a spirited Cove side at arms length. Reigan, Sam and Alex were working hard, making crucial tackles and blocks.

Second Period:  6  -  1

Liam started the third period in goals with Ben moving to right midfield as the cold wind was starting to take its toll on the goalkeeper. Dyce again had the wind at their back, and Alex ran down the left, beating two Cove defenders before rattling a shot off the post with the Cove keeper beaten.  In another sweeping Dyce move, Sam played in Findlay who laid it off first time to the advancing Alex who fired in another great shot that the Cove keeper did well to turn round the post for a corner. But it was only delaying the inevitable, as a long ball out of midfield from Alex found FINDLAY who rounded the keeper and slid the ball home.

However, Cove weren’t giving up. Their left winger beat Alex for pace down the wing and shot low and hard. Liam did well to save, but was out of luck as the ball rebounded in off a Cove forward for a second Cove goal.

Dyce continued to press, but Cove where still trying to reduce the score and a dangerous break was well blocked by a crunching challenge from Sam as he was outnumbered at the back.

A final goal for Dyce though as ROSS linked well with Findlay down the right before tucking in a low shot at the near post. In the final piece of action, Liam pulled off a great save from a fierce low Cove shot.

Final Score:  8  -  2

The final score of 8-2 in favour of Dyce was a great result for the boys with some great passing movements which carved opened the Cove defence time after time. It should be mentioned however that Cove contributed to an entertaining game of football and should take some encouragement from their performance.
