Dyce BC 4 - 5 Albion BC Sunday 28th September 2008 at Aulton This Sunday the boys got the first taste of what it means and takes to play for Dyce Boys club when we played our biggest rivals. We warned the boys they had to be ready to go from the first whistle and we started at full speed. Scott broke through midfield and played a perfect pass to Reigan, but his shot was well saved by the keeper. We had to be aware at the back as Albion looked dangerous on the attack but we defended well from the front with every player pressing the ball. We took a well deserved lead when Liam twice blocked an attempted clearance and there was no doubt when he was one-on-one with the keeper. The goal gave the boys real confidence and we dominated, playing brilliant flowing football. Sean was giving his marker all sorts of problems and the Albion keeper had to save well on a few occasions. Liam added a second after Sean turned inside and out paced the defence and laid the ball on a plate for Liam to finish well. Just before the end of the period Albion pulled one back when a cross from the left somehow found the bottom corner of the net. 1st period 2 – 1 The second period was a battle which the boys were putting everything into. But it was always Albion who struck first, when Ben saved a well struck shot and the Albion striker was the first to react in the box. The boys didn’t let their heads go down and continued to play football to get back into the lead and we did so just before the whistle. Gabriel strongly won two challenges before forcing a corner. Reigan swung in a perfect corner which Liam met brilliantly but his header came back off the bar. Ross had the awareness to finish to the shouts of REBOUND from the sidelines!! 2nd period 3 – 2 It was clear the boys had been giving their all and it was always going to be difficult against a strong Albion side, and attacking uphill! We made the best possible start when James made an excellent challenge in defence. He fed the ball to Alex whose inch perfect left footed pass found Ross who breezed past his defender, cut onto his right foot and rifled the ball into the roof of the net. Albion instantly changed shape and went on the all out attack and Ben made a couple of magnificent saves to keep the score down. We had a few opportunities on the break and Liam was unfortunate when his shot hit the post. Albion kept the pressure up and we started to back off. This led to a long range shot not being closed down and Ben couldn’t keep the ball out. We were fortunate soon after when another long range shot struck the bar and post before coming out. We couldn’t hold out much longer and two more long range strikes, which should have been closed down, gave Albion the game. Final score 4 – 5 The boys were obviously gutted after the match but they have nothing to feel bad about. Each of them gave everything they had and should be proud of their level of energy, commitment and quality of football. They will learn so much from this defeat and could tell by the reaction from the Albion sidelines how much of a match they gave them. The boys have now set the standard which we will expect every week. A great effort regardless of the result. Well done boys! Chris Ian |
