Dyce Boys Club FC  10 - 0   Cove  BC

Sunday 7th September 2008

Webster Park, Kingswells

We kicked off the first of three twenty minute periods in typical cool and drizzly September Scottish weather. The first five minutes were quite scrappy with both teams trying hard to find some rhythm. Taking a pass from Innes Copeland, Jamie Massie played a superb pass down the line to James Morrison who out-stripped the Cove defence, ran through on the keeper and slipped the ball past him, only for the keeper to recover and clear the ball off his line. The first goal was only delayed for a short period and after a good run down the right Liam Murray crossed into the box and with the ball bobbling the Cove keeper tried to kick the ball clear only for it to rebound off James Morrison's knee straight into the back of the net.

Lee McAllister slipped a ball through to James Morrison on the left. He drew the defence before crossing to Liam Murray, in plenty of space, who rammed a right foot shot into the top corner of the net. Craig Robb played a long ball from defence into the Cove box and when it was only half cleared Jamie Massie pounced on the loose ball and fired in a shot with his right foot which went narrowly past the post.

Winning a strong challenge at the back, Innes Copeland played a simple pass to Jamie Massie on the left. Finding James Morrison, he laid the ball into the path of Liam Murray who blasted home from 15 yards.  Goal number four was set up by the same players but this time Liam Murray slipped the ball under the advancing keeper to complete his hat-trick. Dyce had their shooting boots on now and next to try his luck was James Morrison and his shot from distance flew into the back of the net to see Dyce run into a 5  -  0 lead.

The Dyce midfield of Liam Murray, Lee McAllister and Jamie Massie were now dominating and it was no surprise when after a good passing move James Morrison fired home goal number six to complete his hat-trick.  Winning the ball in midfield Lee McAllister went on a great run down the right hand side beating 3 players before crossing into the Cove box, but the ball was eventually cleared after a goalmouth scramble.  A good passing move involving Innes Copeland and Lee McAllister saw the ball played through to Jamie Massie whose fierce shot was well saved by the keeper.

First Period:  6  -  0

Craig Robb intercepted a through ball in his own half, drove forward and slipped a great pass through to Brian Mair whose shot was well saved by the Cove keeper.  James Morrison drove down the right wing and crossed into the box where Brian Mair was again in space but his snap shot went narrowly past the post.  Innes Copeland, in defence, broke up a rare Cove attack and played the ball across field to Craig Robb whose through ball once again found Brian in space. He was unlucky when his shot across the keeper looked netbound, but was cleared off the line.  Craig Robb had now moved into the centre of midfield with Lee McAllister moving into defence.  Archie Mair, in goals, showed good concentration when he raced off his line to clear a dangerous through ball from Cove.

Lee McAllister passed the ball to Craig Robb who played the ball out wide to James Morrison and when Craig met his cross in the box he beat the keeper but unfortunately hit the side netting.  James Morrison skipped past his marker and played a through ball for Brian Mair, but once again he was denied by a good save from the Cove stopper.  A long through ball from Lee McAllister caused a bit of panic in the Cove defence and the ball was eventually cleared for a corner, which came to nothing.  Nearing the end of the second period, Craig Robb won the ball in midfield, drove forward, riding two or three strong challenges, before firing in a shot which the keeper saved but Craig reacted first to the rebound and knocked the ball into the back of the net with his knee.

Second Period:  7  -  0

Cove started brightly in the third period pressing Dyce back early on and Archie Mair in goals had to look sharp, making a couple of good saves. Dyce were tiring but were still trying to play passing football.  Innes Copeland, who was having an excellent game in defence, once again broke up a Cove attack before playing the ball out left to Jamie Massie. His cutback found Craig Robb who took a touch and fired in a fierce shot which the keeper parried.  Once again, Craig was first to the rebound and he hooked the ball home from close range.

A good passing move involving Craig Robb and James Morrison saw the ball played through the middle to Brian Mair who took a touch and hit a great shot into the bottom corner of the net.  Lee McAllister and Innes Copeland had to look sharp at the back on two or three occasions to stop  quick breakaway Cove attacks.   Just before the final whistle Craig Robb played a pass to Liam Murray who beat his marker before hitting a great strike from the edge of the box which gave the Cove stopper no chance.

Full Time:  10  -  0

Scorers:-
Liam Murray 4
James Morrison 3
Craig Robb 2
Brian Mair 1

Considering this was the first game the boys had played together as a team
their passing and movement off the ball was very good but we still have a long way to go.
Looking forward to the rest of the season.
Well done boys
