Dyce Boys Club FC  4 - 2   Portlethen SBC

Sunday 14th September 2008

at Aulton Playing Fields

Early in the first period Dyce had to defend a number of strong attacks from Portlethen.   Good defending on the left by Innes Copeland saw the ball eventually cleared for a corner which was played into the Dyce box and only an instinctive save by Archie Mair, in goals, stopped Portlethen going into the lead.   Winning a strong challenge in the centre of midfield, Craig Robb played a through ball which split the Portlethen defence but the danger was cleared  before Liam Murray could strike.

Owen Murison played a pass up the right hand side to Liam Murray and from his cross, Jamie Massie ghosted in at the back post only to see his shot rebound to safety off the post.  Dyce were having to work hard to contain the strong Portlethen team and hit them on the break when, Jamie Massie played a great through ball between two defenders to the on-rushing Liam Murray who fired his shot over the goalkeeper and into the net.

The Dyce midfield of Lee McAllister, Craig Robb and Jamie Massie were working hard in defensive positions to deny Portlethen any goal scoring chances but a great through ball saw the alert Archie Mair rush from his goals to clear a goal scoring opportunity off the toes of the Portlethen striker.

First Period:  1  -  0

Dyce started the second period brightly and Lee McAllister was unlucky when his long range effort flew past the keeper's upright.   Dyce were being pinned back into their own half but hitting Portlethen with quick break away attacks.  Owen Murison played a pass up the line to James Morrison who cut the ball inside to Jamie Massie who steadied himself before firing a left foot shot that went inches past the post.  Winning a strong challenge in the middle of the park, Craig Robb played the ball to Owen Murison who played a great through ball to James Morrison but his shot went over the bar.

James Morrison played a clever ball through to Lee McAllister but a good challenge by a Portlethen defender in the box saw the danger cleared.  A long clearance out of defence by Owen Murison saw James Morrison chip the ball through to Jamie Massie whose shot was well saved by the Portlethen keeper.  After defending two corners well, Dyce conceded a goal when the ball was played into the near post and the Portlethen striker headed the ball over Archie Mair in goals into the back of the net.

Portlethen had a great run down the right hand side but when the ball was crossed into the box no Portlethen attackers could get on the end of it.  Owen Murison won the ball at the back and played the ball forward to Lee McAllister whose cross was controlled in the box by James Morrison and laid off to Jamie Massie who fired home to put Dyce back in the lead.

Taking a throw-in on the right hand side to James Morrison, Lee McAllister collected the return ball and fired a great ball across the Portlethen box but Jamie Massie rushing in at the back post just failed to make contact.  Innes Copeland played the ball across field to Lee McAllister who drove into the Portlethen half and fired in a speculative shot from 25 metres which deceived the keeper and ended up in the back of the net.  Just at the end of the second period, Lee McAllister won a challenge in his own half, powered forward and fired in another long range effort which the keeper saved at the expense of a corner which came to nothing.

Second Period:  3  -  1

Good work by James Morrison on the right hand side saw Dyce win the first of three corners in quick succession which were all eventually cleared.  Dyce tried to play a short corner kick routine for their next corner but Portlethen intercepted the ball and quickly broke down field to pull a goal back.  Jamie Massie pounced on a poor pass by a Portlethen defender and was unlucky to see his snap-shot whizz past the post. When the ball was played into the Portlethen box James Morrison hustled the defenders into a hasty clearance which broke to Craig Robb at the edge of the box and he lashed the ball into the back of the net.

A good passing move involving James Morrison and Brian Mair saw the ball played through to Craig Robb whose shot was tipped over the bar by the Portlethen keeper.   Portlethen broke to the other end and Owen Murison headed clear a dangerous Portlethen cross into the box.  Riding a couple of challenges Craig Robb passed the ball through to Brian Mair who turned and fired in a right foot shot which the keeper could only parry but his defence cleared the danger.

The play was now end to end and Jamie Massie stung the keeper's hands with a good shot but Craig Robb couldn't control the rebound and fired over the bar.  Portlethen had two dangerous moves down the right hand side in quick succession and the first cross into the box saw no Portlethen players able to get on the end of it and the second capably dealt with by the Dyce defence.  Intercepting a Portlethen pass, Owen Murison played the ball to Lee McAllister who set Jamie Massie off on a great run up the left hand side and when the ball was played into the box Brian Mair made contact but the ball was eventually cleared for a corner.   Brian was unlucky minutes later when a good passing move involving Liam Murray and Jamie Massie saw him fire a shot narrowly past.

Portlethen were pushing hard to get back into the game in the last five minutes but Dyce were defending strongly.  Jamie Massie started a quick break away move on the left and he played the ball into Brian Mair but once again the Portlethen keeper saved.
