Great Northern Trophies - League A

Subs: McElwee, Monk, Cobban, Penny, Scott.

On a very warm and sunny morning at Polo Park the 14s got their season off and running with a victory over a hard working FDS side.

In the warm up there was a wee scare for Dyce when goalkeeper Thomson hurt his arm but he managed to carry on for the game.

The opening exchanges were quite scrappy with both teams trying to settle into the game.

Lewis Alexander had the first serious shot on goal after two minutes but his shot flew past the post.

From a free kick by Jordan Cromar, Cameron Christie had a header which was saved by the FDS keeper.

In the next Dyce attack a through ball from Pashley sent Alexander in on goal but again the FDS keeper saved well.

The breakthrough Dyce were looking for came when, from a Richie Petrie cross, Grant Corbett headed Dyce into the lead, 1-0.

FDS were not out of this game and they kept pushing for an equaliser and but for a fantastic one handed tip over the bar from Thomson, FDS would have been level.

Dyce were struggling to put passes together but after a few "encouraging words" from the coaches, things managed to click into place.

Dyce's second goal came from an amazing run by Lewis Alexander.

Lewis picked the ball up deep in his own half and as he sped away he left a despairing FDS defence trailing behind as Lewis went on to flick the ball past the keeper and make it 2-0.

Lewis was having a good spell on the ball and from his cross Grant Corbett got his second goal from another header, 3-0.

Lewis then tried a 30 yard shot but the keeper managed to hold onto the effort.

The first half scoring came to an end when Lewis Alexander was given time and space to turn in the FDS box and rattle in Dyce's fourth, 4-0.

Half-Time: 4 - 0

The game still flowed from end to end which was impressive by both teams given the warm temperature they were playing in.

Dyce continued to make the more clear cut chances and from a Grant Corbett pass across the edge of the 6 yard area, Jordan Cromar some how managed to miss hit his shot and the ball ran away to safety.

FDS were still pressing forward and keeping Dyce on their toes but from an FDS corner, Dyce broke away and scored their fifth goal of the game.

The ball broke to Jordan Cromar who passed to Richie Petrie.

Richie then slipped a great through ball to Dylan McElwee to slot home from about 12 yards, 5-0.

Dylan then had another chance to increase Dyce's lead but his shot just went past the post.

The heat was taking it's toll on the player's and substitutes were coming thick and fast from both sides as the pace of the game caught up with them.

The sixth and final goal came from a fortuitous decision to award Dyce a free kick because of a "pass back" to the FDS keeper.

Dyce took full advantage of this when from the scramble in the box, Aaron Penny scored from close in, 6-0.

Jordan Clark nearly scored a seventh for Dyce but when it seemed easier to put the ball into the back of the net he sent his shot wide (Jordan still claims it took a bobble first!!).

FDS had one last chance to get onto the scoresheet but it was that man Thomson to Dyce's rescue again.

FDS were awarded a free kick just outside the box and from the kick Thommo tipped the ball onto the bar and the in rushing forward could only scoop the ball high over the bar to take away their last chance for a consolation goal which they would have deserved after all their effort during the game.

Full Time: 6 - 0

A good hard game to start the campaign off but there is still room for improvement which we must make in the forthcoming games.

Well done boys.

Colin, Daniel, Mike and Johnny!
