Team: Bain, Pirie, Clark,
Christie, Monk, Alexander, Petrie, Pashley, Corbett, McElwee, Cromar On a very wet and windy day at Millbank, Alford the 14s played another of the promoted clubs, Donside Juvenile. Despite the rain and the wind the pitch was in excellent condition and held up very well throughout the game. Not much happened in the way of goal mouth incidents in the first five minutes but then Donside scored when the Dyce defence went to sleep and didn't come out to close the striker down who hit his shot from the edge of the box for a 1-0 lead to the home side, 1-0. Dyce hit back and started to put pressure on the home defence but the Donside goalkeeper was having one of those days when everything Dyce hit at him he saved. One shot in particular from Jordan Cromar brought off a magnificent save from the keeper to keep Donside ahead. Just when Dyce thought it wouldn't be their day, a corner from the left landed in the box and from the resultant scramble Richie Petrie equalised for Dyce, 1-1. From another corner the ball landed at Dylan McElwee's feet to shoot at goal but again the shot was saved by the in form keeper. In quick succession two headers from Grant Corbett went wide as Dyce piled on the pressure. Dyce took the lead when Lewis Alexander beat a defender on the edge of the box to run through and fire Dyce ahead, 1-2. Lewis Alexander then scored Dyce's third when from a Connon Bain kick out, Grant Corbett head flicked the ball on to the on running Lewis to stroke the ball into the net, 1-3. One more significant incident was when Grant Corbett fired in a shot from the edge of the box but the ball just went over the bar. Half-Time: 1 - 3 Dyce started the second half a lot better than the first and they created an early chance when from a Jordan Cromar cross Grant Corbett again headed wide. Dyce's ability to string passes from back to front was refreshing to see and from one such move they scored their fourth. Cameron Laird started this movement by passing to Cameron Pashley, who in turned sent Lewis Alexander free on the right. Lewis drove past the defence to hit a low cross across the face of the goal for substitute Clark Scott to side foot home from six yards, 1-4. Not long after Dyce got a fifth when Jordan Clark scored after a scramble in the box, 1-5. Jordan then had to recover from the shock of getting a nose-bleed from being so close to the goal!!! Dyce continued to make the more clear cut chances and from a Lewis Alexander through ball Danny Middler ran in behind the home defence to slot the ball home for goal number six, 1-6. The final goal of the game came when Lewis showed great ball control to bring the ball down from a Connon Bain clearance, he then passed to Clark Scott who laid the ball back from the edge of the box to Alex Cobban to score from a delightfully flighted ball high over the keeper and into the net, 1-7. Full Time: 1 - 7. A good result after a slow start and at times the passing and movement was a joy to watch. Well done boys. Colin, Daniel, Mike and Johnny! | |||||
