Sunday 29th August 2010
Pitmedden Road
Great Northern Trophies - League A

Dyce welcomed Westdyke Boys Club to Pitmedden Road for this first home league match of the season and would be keen to build on last Sunday’s good performance at Maud. The Pitmedden playing surface was in excellent shape but overhead conditions were wet and windy and not very suitable for silky passing football.

Dyce kicked off playing left to right and directly into a very strong breeze but immediately pushed forward with Felipe Da Silva crossing over a dangerous ball from the right side that forced the tall Westdyke keeper to make a low diving save at the feet of Danny Cator. Westdyke attacked on their right side and Rhys Leiper made a fantastic save to tip over a wind assisted net bound shot from twenty yards.

Playing against the wind was proving difficult but Dyce broke forward quickly and scored the all important first goal with FELIPE Da SILVA slipping the keeper and shooting home from ten yards after an excellent through pass from Ben Allan. Andrew Hampton was looking lively on the wide right of midfield and played over a couple of great balls that the away defence just managed to scramble clear as Dyce probed for the second goal.

Ben Allan had an eighteen yard shot well saved by the impressive Westdyke keeper after a lovely weighted pass from Ewan Ritchie and Jack Smith had a brilliant run on the left side to force a corner that came to nothing. Westdyke had a couple of fast attacks on their right side but Craig Simpson and Conner Thomson were in good defensive form and cleared easily.

Ben Allan took a long throw near the right sided corner flag, Danny Cator head flicked the ball into the danger area and Bruce Patterson had a good twenty yard effort on target well saved by the away keeper. Jack Smith forced another fine save from the keeper with a strong header from ten yards after another good cross from the right side by Felipe Da Silva. Andrew Hampton had a terrific shot from twenty five yards that just cleared the cross bar as Dyce were playing some decent triangular football in midfield with Bruce Patterson, Ben Allan and Ewan Ritchie calling the shots.

Danny Cator and Felipe Da Silva had decent efforts on goal but failed to hit the target as Dyce were pushing hard for the vital second goal. At 1-0,Westdyke were still very much in the game and good anticipation in defence by Josh Milne stopped a dangerous attack as Dyce were caught a little thin at the back. Rhys Leiper was looking in good form but was beaten by a high left wing corner that luckily for the home team went narrowly over the cross bar and behind to safety.

JACK SMITH scored a superb second goal for Dyce, side footing home from fifteen yards after an excellent ball from the right side by Andrew Hampton. Andrew was then unlucky not to score but headed wide of the near post from close in after a deep left wing corner from Jack Smith. Conner Thomson was penalised for a strong challenge on the away striker and was invited to give his name to the Referee after a difference of opinion with the official. Rhys Leiper made a great stop to keep out the resultant thirty yard free kick.

Half Time: Dyce 2 Westdyke 0

Dyce made one change for the start of the second period, Ewen MacDonald replacing Rhys Leiper between the sticks and with wind advantage would look to force Westdyke onto the back foot at every opportunity. Danny Cator had a firm header from ten yards well saved by the away keeper and then Felipe Da Silva shot over from fifteen yards after another long throw in from Ben Allan. Ewan Ritchie tried a clever lobbed shot from twenty five yards that beat the keeper but just slipped wide of the right upright.

The home team were well on top and the ever dangerous FELIPE Da SILVA scored goal number three with a low shot from the left side that deceived the keeper at his near post. Bruce Patterson took a well deserved rest and was replaced by Clark Henderson who made an immediate impact on the game with two superb tackles in centre midfield.

Liam Paterson replaced Jack Smith and five minutes later Lee Milne came on for Andrew Hampton as Dyce continued to push forward looking for more goals. Craig Simpson played a lovely diagonal ball from the right side of defence to release Felipe Da Silva in the wide left position and his fine cross just failed to pick out Danny Cator at the far post.

Westdyke had a good five minute spell and excellent back tracking by Lee Milne  in the right back area stopped a certain away score and then Ewen MacDonald made a super save to keep out a firm low twenty yard shot. MITCHELL SMITH replaced Ben Allan and within five minutes, scored a brilliant individual goal for Dyce, running through from midfield and shooting low into the corner of the net from fifteen yards after wrong footing the keeper.

Liam Paterson shot well over the cross bar from twenty yards after a deep high right wing corner from Clark Henderson was only partially cleared by the Westdyke defence. Josh Milne made a terrific run from the back, beating three players but was crowded out before he could get a shot away. Jack Smith replaced Danny Cator and Dyce scored goal number five when CONNER THOMSON crashed home from two yards after a great ball in from the left side by Felipe Da Silva.

Lee Milne and Clark Henderson were getting through a power of work in midfield and Clark was unlucky not to score on at least two occasions with very decent strikes on goal. Jack Smith, Ewan Ritchie and Lee Milne all had fine efforts but failed to trouble the overworked Westdyke keeper as the Referee blew his whistle for time up with Dyce deservedly winning another three points.

Final Score: Dyce 5 Westdyke 0

Well played boys, another excellent performance and result in difficult playing conditions.
