Dyce BC FC 6 - 3 Cove BC Utd Sunday 10th February 2008 Webster Park On a
lovely February day both teams took to the field eager to get going
again after the short break. Dyce
BC were unable to send out a full strength team since Ross Irvine was
unwell, Kieran Geddes who previously did an excellent job standing in
as a keeper volunteered to stand in. The
game started at a good pace with both teams keen to get the upper
hand, fortunately it was Dyce who created a number of chances but
couldn`t make them count with some good defending and goalkeeping from
Cove A
great chance came after 10 minutes when a ball from Ryan was played
wide to Calum who then played the ball forward to Bradley whose shot
was touches past the post by the Cove keeper. The
breakthrough came after 14 minutes when some good play from midfield
saw the ball end up at Bradley`s feet, his shot towards goal was
turned in by an unlucky Cove defender To
be fair Cove bounced back from that and ended the first period with a
bit of pressure against the Dyce defence. 1st
period - The
second period saw Dyce start the same way as the first with much of
the early pressure but it was 6 minutes in before this paid off.
Kieran played the ball out to Ben who passed the ball forward towards
Calum who challenged a Cove player, won the ball and shot first time
towards the goal resulting in the ball going under the diving keeper
and into the net. Just
like the first period Cove bounced back and created a great chance
themselves which forced Kieran into a save with his feet at close
range. Cove
kept up the pressure and with a move down the middle of the park Dyce
found their defence caught out too far up field which left their
keeper with a one on one, the Cove player fired the ball low into the
net giving our keeper no chance. A
few minutes into this period Dyce started to string some great passes
together and this paid off when from the right side Ben played the
ball over to the left side met by Dylan who controlled it and took on
a defender beating him before passing the ball to Bradley who played a
one / two with Calum, Bradley then took a shot which beat the Cove
keeper. Some great work by the team for this goal. Shortly
before the end of this period a similar move saw Dylan on the left
play the ball with a good pass to Calum, he passed to Bradley who was
unmarked, he controlled the ball before shooting across the keeper and
into the net. The
end of this period saw some great play with some good tackling by the
Dyce players to win the ball from Cove players, Matthew, Ben and Angus
were getting the chance to play further up the field but as usual
could be relied to cover back when required.
2nd
period - The
last period saw some good play right from the start with all players
keen to assert themselves and add to the score. Ben and Angus
continued doing good job at the back. It
was from a Cove corner their work paid off playing the ball out to
Liam on the left wing, he played the ball to Ryan who squared the ball
to Dylan whose shot required a great save from the Cove keeper, Liam
followed in with the rebound but his shot was just wide of the left
post. After
10 minutes some good work by Dyce from defence had the ball sent
through the midfield before being passed to Ryan on the right wing, he
moved the ball forward before firing in a cross/shot which the keeper
was unable to hold and turned into his own net. 2
minutes later a Dyce throw in from the left found Dylan in some space
to shoot but his effort hit the post. With
5 minutes left Dyce were looking good despite some good work from the
Cove players who were not giving up easily. The last goal for Dyce
came from a move which saw Dylan play the ball out to Ryan on the
right who fired a great shot towards goal beating the keeper despite
his efforts. At 6
-1 it would have been easy to think Dyce had the game wrapped up but
as has happened previously a lapse in concentration saw Cove score
twice within the last few minutes, once from a free-kick and once from
open play. Credit to them since they never gave up and showed the Dyce
boys you need to keep playing to the final whistle. Well
done to both teams and parents for playing and watching the game in
the right spirit
