Dyce BC 9 - 0 Cove BC Sunday 16th September 2007 Webster Park The first fixture of the 2007-2008 Under 10s season took place at Webster Park, Kingswells against Cove BC in some typically wet Scottish weather. Panic in the dressing room prior to kick-off when Bradley Neish discovered that he had taken one of his boots and one of his little brother’s – which didn’t fit!! Ryan Booth came to the rescue having a spare of boots that Bradley borrowed.
The start of the match was fairly even. Bruce Anderson had a strong run down the right and crossed to Matty Dick who drew a good save from the Cove keeper, while at the other end Nathan Ross (in goals for the first half) made a good save from the first Cove attack. The next Dyce attack saw Bruce have a strong run and cross which was cleared for a corner.
The match then settled into a pattern of Dyce attacking at every opportunity with Cove holding on well. The first goal came from an attack down the left: Matty crossed and Bradley Neish scored with a crisp left foot shot (with his borrowed boots). Soon after, a fine passing move initiated down the right by Ben Soutar and Liam Strachan and involving most of the team resulted in a goal at the back post courtesy of Matty’s right foot.
Next, Bradley had a shot just wide, and after a Cove attack, Bradley chipped the ball goalwards and Liam Strachan scored with a header. Dylan Smith, just on in defence, made a strong run and fired in a high looping shot which the Cove keeper saved well. Dyce scored their fourth goal of the game when Cameron Shore fired in a long range effort, and the half was brought to a close with a second goal from Matty.
Half-time 5-0
The first attack of the second half saw Matty hit the post, and after a period of pressure Cove could only clear the ball as far as Bruce who scored goal number six from distance. A long range shot from Conor Dickie drew another good save from the Cove keeper, but he could do nothing when Bruce played in Nathan who scored with a cool finish. Dylan tried his luck from distance again but the ball was cleared for a corner, then Matty had a cross deflected goalwards into the keepers arms.
The rain was getting even heavier but the players were doing well in such difficult conditions. Matty played a great pass through towards Bradley, but was unlucky as the ball skidded on the wet surface and went out. A powerful drive from Conor brought the next goal for Dyce: a Cove defender bravely put his head in the way of the shot and was unlucky to deflect the ball over his keeper and into the net.
Defending a Cove corner, Dyce played some great counter-attacking football with Bradley attacking down the left before cutting the ball back to Nathan in the middle, who took the unselfish option of playing in Conor, whose shot just went wide. The scoring was completed by Nathan Ross before Referee Mannall sensibly finished the game early as the conditions deteriorated.
Full-time 9-0
Continuing where they left off last year, this was a good display in difficult conditions.
