Westdyke BC  0 - 4   Dyce Boys Club

Sunday 25th November  2007

Crombie Primary School, Westhill

This match was played in bright but cold conditions, and Dyce started with a recognised goalkeeper in Thomas Flewker-Barker between the posts.

The opening exchanges were very even, then Westdyke had a couple of good passing moves, one of which required a great last-gasp tackle by Liam Strachan to prevent a clear chance.  Dyce were starting to get into the game, and a good passing move involving Bruce Anderson and Bradley Neish saw Matty Dick test the keeper with a strong shot.

Cameron Shore started the next attack, playing the ball to Bruce who exchanged passes with Glenn Murison before feeding the ball through to Bradley, but his shot was saved.  Dyce looked certain to score with the next move when Bradley’s shot went past the keeper but a defender managed to dive in to deflect the ball for a corner.

However, the opener arrived a few moments later – Glenn played the ball out wide to Fraser Wyness and his cross-come-shot sailed high over the goalie and into the net.  Dyce finished the half on the front foot, but couldn’t find a way past the Westdyke defence and keeper, who were playing well.

Half-time  1-0

The second half started in the same pattern as the first half had finished, with Dyce pressing for the second goal, but Westdyke holding firm.  The goal nearly arrived when Liam won the ball at the back and fed Glenn who surged through and fired a terrific shot that rattled the right post.  All this with just 6 players on the pitch!  The parents alerted Jake across the pitch, and he shouted back “Where’s Matty?”  Apparently one of the rolling substitutions had been confused and Matty came off instead of changing wings.  Either that or he fancied a rest!

Thomas rolled the ball out to Cameron and his lofted pass down the left touchline was intercepted by a Westdyke player making a diving save – handball!  The free-kick was played down the left to Bradley who ran in and shot from a tight angle – the ball squirmed under the keeper, and Glenn who had followed the shot in, was in the right place to tap into the net.

Bruce fired in a corner from the right and the ball deceived a defender on the post and the keeper and went in for goal number three.  Westdyke were claiming there was a gap in the net, but none was found and the goal stood.  The fourth goal was the best of the game – a great passing move from Liam to Bruce to Fraser to Matty and finally to Bradley, who finished from close range with a left foot shot.

The scoring was complete but there was still plenty of action to report.  Westdyke went very close from a couple of corners, and Dyce had further chances.  Bruce surged down the right wing and cut the ball back to Fraser on the penalty spot, but his shot went just over.  Returning the compliment Fraser fed Bruce but his shot was well saved by the keeper.

Full-time  4-0

This was a good passing performance and the team kept doing the right things until the goals came.  Credit to Westdyke though, they kept going and battled right to the end.
