Dyce BC 3 - 1 Colony Park 29th October 2005 8 Inverdee A League Cheyne, Morrison, McIntosh, Heads, Taylor, Faeroe, Lepkowski, Ferguson, Watson, Stewart and Whyte. Subs :- Duncan, Sellar, Patterson, Gall and Mather,
The weather was mild and showery and the game started at a frantic pace with no one really getting on top. Passing football was lacking on both sides with the ball more in the air than on the ground. The first half highlights were simply four strikes at goal by Andy Whyte in the 5th, 29th, 37th and 43rd minutes, one of which was very well saved by the Colony Keeper. The only other highlight was a 25 yard free kick from Colony which was the last kick of the first half and brought their only goal. Half Time 0 – 1 The lads were given a stern talking to at half time and give them their due they stepped up their performance and knew they had to dig deep for a result. 5 mins into the half and Stewart had a chance but put it past the post. Colony were determined to spoil the play in the midfield and they succeeded for a while but they weren’t getting into our half as much. The defence of McIntosh, Heads and Morrison were coping well and Cheyne was his usual solid self in goal. In 56 mins we got the equaliser when a long free kick was chased by Whyte who finished well. The game was still at a frantic pace and our midfield of Watson, Sellar, Faeroe, Lepkowski and Mather were starting to win the battles for possession. In 76 mins we took the lead with what can only be described as the goal of the season from Whyte. Wide on the right touch line about 35 yards out, he smacked a belter right into the Colony net. What a peach. Colony battled on and tested our defence occasionally from corners and especially long throw-ins into our box. The pitch was so narrow but we stood firm and eventually with a couple of minutes to go Whyte sealed it with his hat-trick. Faeroe squared the ball to him at the edge of the box and he slotted it away well.
Full-time 3 – 1
Not a highly polished performance where our passing movement was poor mainly due to the efforts of a strong Colony side. The lads dug deep and got a well deserved win. Now for the Scottish Cup. Derek Eric & Bryan |
